Kimya's anti-folk

Kimya's anti-folk I come to you with my newest obsession: Anti-folk!

I admit that I first heard about it in "Juno". When I watched it I found myself rewinding to listen to tunes again and again, and of course I looked up for the soundtrack. What I found was this name repeated over all the list: Kimya Dawson.

This opened me the amazing door of anti-folk. Now what's anti-folk? Well I'd really define it like acoustic noise you know? Not because of the sound but cos of the feeling of it, the scene, the undergroundness of it.

The real catch on it is the simple feeling, its like this real easy tunes with lyrics that mock themselves all the time, on and on a soft raspy voice going on about stuff in general, with no pretensions, no auto-glorification.

Its lovely really. There are songs of every type. Some real sweet like "Tire Swing" some real heavy like "The Beer" which a very heavy and just devastating statement on alcoholism, or some dead silly like "The parade". What I love is the reality of it, no fancy rhymes, no pretensions really, just good music for the very sake of it.

And it speaks to you, its simple, lovely and goes on about pretty much everything, you can really jump in the beat, and you end up humming "12/26" The phrases are quotable by accident. You don't find some song that tries to be a freaking anthem, they just speak.

Like "Underground" can you help listening to these words? Cos honestly I can't.

"My head is pounding I can't stop the pounding
I think it is going to explode
and kill everybody who's in close proximity to the place I call my home...

Thee needles are numbered so I'm writing you letters
and I cannot disguise the fact that I'm nervous when we are together
and so I fantasize
that the nights will get shorter and the days will get better
I feel a kick inside and decide
if this is a girl I'm naming her Heather
she'll look just like you but her hair will be feathered
she'll say how you died before you ever met her
her hair will be feathered

If you want to hear of her just look her up in YouTube, and listen listen closely, even if she says "I'm just an ass in the crack of humanity, I'm just a huge manatee" Listen, I tell you listen.

It might be odd but is the most real thing I've found in ages, and most of all its bizarre.

And B stands for bizarre.
