Jenny Owen Youngs

Jenny Owen Youngs Have you ever rode in the backseat of a car, looking outside the window and think about what a truly beautiful world we live in? Well, you may not have, but that's what I think of doing every time I listen to a Jenny Owen Youngs's song. The 25-year old's unique songwriting and musical style makes you feel like you don't have a single care in the world.

Youngs went to a music program in New York where she met fellow singer/songwriter Regina Spektor. Youngs was able to land a spot touring with Spektor. They stayed close friends, so close that Spektor was featured on Youngs's song, "Voice on Tape" (she's the first girl you hear on the tape recorder).

After touring with Spektor, Youngs independently released her debut album, Batten The Hatches in November of 2005. It's filled with unbelievable songs, such as "Woodcut", "Keys Out Lights On" and "Voice on Tape". Although the album didn't make quite a stir, her single "Fuck Was I" has become popular on its own. If you so happen to be a fan of the Showtime series - Weeds, you may have heard "Fuck Was I" in the second season premiere.

Due to her newfound success, Jenny was able to re-release Batten The Hatches on an independent record label. I strongly advise you get this album. Her style of singing and writing is absolutely astounding. Every song on the album is good in their own way but the most touching songs are "Keys Out Lights On" and "Voice on Tape". But that's just my opinion. If you want to find out for yourself, buy the album. Jenny's not all about seriousness either. She also has a fun side. She recorded a cover of Nelly's "Hot in Herre". It's better than his version!
