Green Day

Green Day is a punk rock band originated in California. We all know Green Day; from the monster single Longview to the song American Idiot which is, until now, stuck in our heads. “If you don’t know this band, it’s either you came from other planet... Or you’re extinct.” That’s what other people will tell you if you haven’t heard of this band. But, what’s “Green Day”? Who are they?

Green Day is composed of 3 members; Billie Joe Armstrong (lead vocals and guitar) Tré Cool (drums) and Mike Dirnt (bass guitar and vocals). Before they were called Green Day, they were called Sweet Children.

Dookie. That’s where it all started. Welcome to Paradise made them successful and Basket case made them more famous. People shouldn’t think why they’re famous especially in punk rock. It’s just not the faces; it’s also because of the music they’re making. But, after several release of their albums, they’re categorized as “sell outs”. It’s because of them signing in a major label and because of they’re world-wide success. Some people agree they’re sell-outs, some people don’t. That’s only one of the issues that surround this band.

American Idiot made them go back to the scene. It gained them more respect. It’s a whole new Green Day. Becoming more and more successful, they won many awards that made them greater. In 2005, they had a tour in England which was voted “Greatest show on Earth”.

Now, Green Day is making their next album. For some reasons, people believe that this album is not as good as their previous albums. These guys are smart; they know what they’re doing. They could even release albums every year. But, people expect more. It’s not like GD can make every albums they release a monster hit. Anyway, it’s still Green Day. What do you expect? Every album of Green day is considered as a treasure.

It’s been 19 years since Green Day was formed. Did something changed? Yes. They evolve and evolve into a better band. But, they’re not different. Some things change but some things remain.
