My Chemical Romance - December 11, 2007

My Chemical Romance - December 11, 2007 There was a load of smoking in the line, which got annoying, I mean, really annoying. People shouted “Open the fucking DOORS!” quite a few times. Finally the doors opened and everyone poured into the arena!

We were inside... the stage was set and everyone in the mosh pits were having a good time. Balloons aren’t usually found at a rock show but there were several in the pits getting bounced back and forth. There were elderly people and small children there, too! Amazing!

Green Day songs came on, at first I thought that My Chemical Romance had gotten Green Day to be their opening band. But it was just a recording. Lots of people were singing along to the Green Day song. Then the lights went out… and the drum beat began. People stood on chairs to get a better look, people in the mosh pits were going mad.

Then the opening chords of ‘This is How I Disappear’ began. Screaming and cheering then the explosion of lights. The silhouette of Gerard stood on the stage holding up the microphone stand high above his head. Like a true Rock-God. He brought the stand back down to the ground and screamed into the mic, “GO!”

The people in the seating sections all pressed up against the back barrier. The people in the mosh pits pushed up closer to the stage screaming and singing along to Gerard’s voice.

“Well hello Singapore! Do you know who we are? No? Well, I’m surprised. WE ARE MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE and It’s our first time here! Give it up for us old American cow boys, lemme hear you say YEEE HAW!”

“YEE HAW!” everyone shouted.

Dead! was played next, I remember a lot of jumping and head banging and arms flailing. All the amps had been turned up to an average 11 which meant that anyone within 3 feet of the stage could probably go deaf.

“Sing it with me! La la la la la! La la la la la la! Now come on!” Gerard sang and then pointed the microphone out into the crowd. Everyone sang the ‘la la’ part while Gerard continued with…

“If life ain’t just a joke, then why are we laughing!?”

Everyone clapped and cheered after the song was over.

“STOP! I want everyone to stop right where they are! And if you see anyone around you, on the floor, I want you to pick them up, pick them the fuck up right now. I don’t care how much fun you’re having, if you see someone fall down, you pick them the fuck up!” Gerard shouted to the crowd.

He’s so cool. Ray and Frank opened the next song, with their amazing guitar playing skill. It wasn’t hard to recognize the song.

“Well if you wanted honesty that’s all you had to say! I never want to let you down or have you go,” Gerard sang then pointed the mic out to the crowd

“it’s better off this way!” we sang.

Ray played an amazing solo, head banging while rocking out on his guitar, his fro swooshing back and forth! One thing that is a must see live! At the opening riff, I knew immediately what song it was.

“What song is this one?” Some girl next to me asked another girl.

“Um, it’s, uh…”, the other girl said.

“Give Em HELL!!!” I shouted.

“Give em Hell Kid,” the girl next to me said to the one who posed the question. It annoyed me that they kept asking questions during the show. Give ‘Em Hell Kid is the first song I ever heard by the guys, my cousin introduced me to them, and the relationship has lasted a very long time.

Singing along to every word the crowd got hot and sweaty and the air conditioned arena felt like a nice day outside!

“Well it rains and it pours, when you're out on your own, if I crash on the couch, can I sleep in my clothes?”

This song definitely went by in a blur, I don’t seem to remember much, except for singing along, and moshing. That’s when I went slightly deaf, and couldn’t hear myself. I thought this one was Desert Song at first, but then, they played further into the song and…

“Mama we all go to hell!” Gerard sang.

“I’m writing this letter and wishing you well! SING IT!”

“Mama we all go to hell!” The crowd sang.

Gerard started waving his arm back and forth, and the crowd followed. Then Gerard sang the Liza Minelli part, and he did a really good job of it too!

“Look at you Motherfuckers, you’re beautiful!” Gerard said into the microphone breathing heavily.

I wish Bob were there to play that. My Chemical Romance just doesn’t feel right without all of the guys there. Usually, rock bands don’t sound as good live. But I have to say that My Chemical Romance is not your average rock band.

“Way down!” Gerard said, “Come on! Way down!”

“Way down!” The crowd sang along.

Thump thump thump thump BOOM! The drums ended.

“I’m sure… that you ALL know this song… and if you do! Sing along!” Gerard said. The keyboardist played the first notes and everyone went berserk!

“When I was! A young boy! My father! Took me into the city! To see a marching band!” The crowd shouted. Welcome to the Black Parade is the most played My Chemical Romance song on the radio. Everyone knows it. Even people who hate them know the song and know the tune!

Then came another crowd favorite. I Don’t Love You.

“When you go… and would you even turn to say,” Gerard sang then turned the microphone to the crowd.

“I don’t love you! Like I did yesterday!” the crowd sang. Gerard seriously had everyone wrapped around his little finger.

Ray, Frank and Mikey are the most amazing guitarist and bassists. There are no words to describe it. Frank putting in every ounce of energy in his body, playing those power chords like they were the hardest thing to play.

At one point, Gerard had yelled out, "We are f**king you so hard, you won't be able to walk tomorrow!" What did the crowd do? They screamed and begged for more. But some fell silent.

After a while Gerard said “sorry.”

The next song was House Of Wolves and then prison. During the opening chords of prison Gerard had a little something to say.

“Where are all the boys in here? I wanna see the boys?” Gerard asked. He was replied with hoots and shouts.

“Boys, I want you to take off your shirts and swing em over your head like the fucking animals that you are!” Gerard screamed.

In the mosh pits many a shirt came off the backs of the boys. Swinging them over their heads.

“Turn the lights on again, I wanna see all your beautiful faces!” Gerard said.

“Whooo!!” the crowd screamed. No one seemed to be tired though the concert had probably been going for up to an hour the least. Gerard then asked us to take out our lighters, cell phones, anything and wave them back and forth. He then carried on with singing Helena.

As soon as the song ended Gerard said, “See that right there, that right there is the most amazing thing in the world! That’s why you all have to go out there and start your own band!”

Mikey and Ray and Frank threw some stuff into the crowd. Water bottles, guitar picks. The next song, Teenagers. A crowd pleaser of course. Gerard got us pumping our first like the way they did in the music video. Amazing… seriously, amazing! Then the song Sleep came on and then Cancer. The lighters and cell phones came back out and the crowd swayed back and forth.

“'Cause the hardest part of this is leaving you!” Gerard sang.

“GOODNIGHT SINGAPORE!!!!” Gerard screamed into the microphone and ran off the stage.

“NOOOO!!!” The crowd cried feebly. Nearly everyone had lost their voice.

Chants of MCR MCR MCR, were also feeble, but they were trying.

“ONE MORE SONG!”

“DESERT SONG!” I cried.

The lights came on, shining into out faces. I could hear the opening riffs of Desert Song.

“I don’t know if you all know this song, but it’s one that we never got to put onto the actual record, it’s called Desert Song,” Gerard said.

Beautiful. Simply beautiful. Gerard’s voice and the guitars harmonizing so well. It was magical. At the end of the song everyone was a little more relaxed. But just like Gerard to end a real show on a high note they came with Famous Last Words to end a night that would never be forgotten.

Everyone knew the words, everyone jumped up and down, everyone sang along. The guys of My Chemical Romance had done it again. Yet another unforgettable night. Yet another unforgettable show!
