Green Day Wembley Review June 2010

After perhaps a little too much time away, the Green Day trio returned to the MEN arena for possibly the most spectacular show of the year.

With fancy dress, an astonishing amount of crowd participation, and of course masses of astounding music, the Green Day trio’s Halloween concert at the MEN arena, Manchester, was certainly not one to be missed.

Starting off the set list with the first song from the new album, and finishing off with a hit from their 1997 album, Nimrod, Green Day undoubtedly managed to please the shocking amount of fans that filled up the 21,000 capacity arena. With at least one song from each of their eight studio albums and covers of songs from the likes of The Beatles and The Undertones, the set list is definitely much stronger than expected, and there was something to please everyone!

With Green Day front-man Billie Joe stating that he believes 'it’s important not to be afraid of being an entertainer’ in a Green Day Kerrang magazine special released only weeks before the show, it is obvious that he was not bluffing as he ran up and down the stage, even into the crowd, seeming to easily engage the whole of the audience for the entire show.

As if running into the roaring crowds were not good enough, the vivacious front man also invited various lucky audience members to join him and the rest of the band on stage! Between this and the free merchandise being fired out into the crowds using a ‘t-shirt gun’, it seemed to be every Green Day fans dreams come true.

The concert overall had no specific climax, as you would expect from most arena concerts, yet the reason for this was because the whole show carried the same amount of amazement. The beginning, middle and end all held spectacular moments, all just as unpredictable and awesome as the last.

From the moment that the band walked on stage, up until the final roars of the crows when drummer, Tré Cool, threw a handful of drumsticks into the mosh pit, there was not one moment of disappointment throughout the whole three hour concert.
