I'm sorry, but I disagree with this article completely. Yes, her first two albums were very deep and very meaningful, but I feel that Thye Best Damn Thing has a few songs like that of its own and Goodbye Lullaby is basically just slow, meaningful songs besides Smile and What the Hell. I think she's stayed the same Avril, she's just let herself have more fun than she did when she was 16. I can't wait for another album, she's said it's in the works right now.

I have to agree with this article. I used to love "Let Go" and "Under My Skin" when I was a kid -- when I heard her newer songs, I was definitely thinking that there was something off. Yes, she grew up, but... She grew up in a bit of a weird way. The new songs sound more childish than the old ones!

The weirdest thing to me is the clash of morals between "What the Hell" and "Don't Tell Me". I always interpreted "What the Hell" to be about sleeping around, whereas, in "Don't Tell Me" she was singing about how she wasn't "that girl". I know, I know... A lot has happened to her since then. But it's such a radical shift, you know?

Yeah. I agree. I loved her. She was spunky, and made me feel good about wearing black tights and 80s band tees. Nowadays shes just....preppy. But really, I think she just went down hill. It seems like society has completely changed her. It isn't like she's lost her talent(she hasn't), it's just...she's different now. It's sad, but what can you do.

I do not agree with this article. I feel as if yeah, she grew up. But dont we all? She just grew up in a way most of us don't. Famous. Her song's used to be about how life sucks. How love stinks and about how no one get's what they want. She was a teenager for Christ's sake! Well, now she is an adult and she is learning to enjoy her life for what it can be! Crazy! Wanna know why? Because she's fucking famous! I praise her for sticking it out this long. It's been this many year's before her song's turn bouncy and upbeat. But look, they make great songs for when you wanna dance. Not just when you want to mope in self pity. So, where do i stand? I always have and always will be an Avril Lavigne fan.

She used to say things like, I'd never go blonde and be that kind of tacky pretty popstar. Well lookey here, that's what you've become sweetheart! It's because she knows she can't compete against the competition that is out there these days. I mean who's going to listen to Avril's whining when they could listen to Paramore or Muse, real rockers. That's why she sold out. Plus this new look gives her a whole new fan base... impressionable six year old girls. This was a money making tactic, intent on rolling in the green no matter what crap she herself was rolling out, and a way to keep her face in the paper so she doesn't get forgotten. Sell out? Yes.

She has changed. She grew up. She is a HUMAN. We all have to change at one point. Unlike all of you, I am still and always will be Avril's #1 fan. So, her songs have changed a bit. I agree. But, I still love Avril no matter what and im certainly not going to give up on her all because her songs dont have a "Deeper Meaning" anymore.

I think she grew up but she didn't grow up well.
She was surrounded by peope worshioing her (so to speak) and it went to her head.

But I do happen to like her newest CD AND I like 'What The Hell' (allthough the video is horrible) but the rest of the CD is a lot more like her old stuff and it's being accepted more that The Best Damn Thing.

I agree with this article as well.
Yes musicians love to experiment and times are changing, but that is no excuse.

What the Hell starts off with her talking about making out with her boyfriend or ex's friend. I have heard songs that were catchy, upbeat and still had meaning.

She is a completely different person her lyrics are vain and she tries to hold onto old fans by dressing punk, but that isn't what we want we want music with meaning. No she doesn't have to be gloomy and depressed but I don't want to hear her talking about being better then someone else.

When people defend her and say that's she's an adult now and she's grown up, I feel slightly revolted. Her songs are the brattiest they've ever been, reeking of attitude and bitchiness whereas her older songs used to boast pride in herself, emotion and heartfelt issues. And okay, I'm not a preteen anymore, this music only occasionally holds my interest when I like to think about the past, so for me at least it's become completely irrelevant, but the morals hold. I listened to it back then because I wasn’t sure who I was, but it assured me that whoever I may become would be acceptable and I shouldn’t feel the need to hide. But what is she teaching children and pre-teens now?

Musicians love to experiment with music, like if all they do is deep dark songs sometimes they want to try to do happy upbeat songs. most of my musician friends i know say its because the want to see how far they can go out of their comfort zones..

Avirl was and will always be one of my idols, I used to listen to her Let Go album all the time. Though I love her first few albums, I accept the fact that she's changing. People change as they grow. And though her lyrics seems to have little to no meaning now a days, she was someone I used to look up to and I would hope they she still kinda is that person.

I completely agree. "What the Hell" gave me the feeling that she became more of a rebel, one without common sense....

I remember being a little kid and wanting to be just like her...now I look at her and listent to her new songs and it's like...wow. I mean, I totally looked up to her and she inspired me to be who I am. It's sad that she took a turn for the worse. She was my idol for years.

I miss her.

Avril was my idol. She taught me to be who I am, and not give a f*ck about what other's was thinking. She helped me through a lot of things, made me believe in myself, and she was just a huge inspiration. The Best Damn Thing ruined it all for me, and I lost all respect for her. Yes, people do change, but I feel like she went against her own words..

I agree with you. I loved her old stuff and she was my idol.

But at the same time, people change, whether we like it or not.

I agree with you. I remember being 12 and listening to Avril. All my friends told me she was a poser but I lover her music anyways. I still jam to her first album to this day. When i heard 'what the hell' I didn't really know what to think. She got a divorce yes? Maybe this song was written as a f*** you to Derrik? Who knows. Anyways enough blabbing for me. I agree with you what happened to her.
