Slaves of the Mastery

Slaves of the Mastery It has been five years since Kestrel, Bowman and Mumpo returned the voice of the wind singer and freed their city from the evil of the Morah. The city has become kinder, happier...weaker.

When an army from the Mastery strikes Aramanth at dawn, the city is unprepared and unprotected. The army burns the city to the ground and takes the Manth people as slaves. All except for Kestrel Hath, who was hidden.

Separated from her beloved brother, Kestrel must follow the trail of the march, hoping to reunite herself with her family and seek revenge on those who enslaved her people. On the way she is picked up by the Johldila Sirharasi of Gang, who is on her way to be married to the son of The Master.

Bowman is taken to the Mastery as a slave, where he takes up the role of night-watchman. It is there where he is visited by an ugly one-eyed hermit, who tells Bowman that he alone can destroy the Mastery and break the will of the Master. Bowman slowly discovers his powers.

Mumpo becomes a manic, a fighter in a deadly dance. He is trained for his debut fight at the wedding. Pinto Hath, his friend and the sister to Kestrel and Bowman, constantly fears for him, convinced that he will be killed.

Ira Hath continues to prophesies. With each vision of the future, she becomes weaker. Her husband believes she is the only person who can lead the Manth people to the homeland, but he worries about her health.

This brilliant sequel to The Wind Singer continues the story of friendship and love, family and bravery. A must-read.
