I'm so glad that someone has addressed this issue. I grew up reading Harry Potter. As a Christian, a bunch of my friends weren't allowed to read them either. Same thing with Twilight in the past few years. You're so right. They're fiction and they had good lessons in them showing how people prevail over evil and about love. I'm quite religious myself but it makes me mad when people take it too far and give the rest of us christians a bad rep because they're calling great pieces of literature satanic.

i believe as a christian that Harry Potter always triumphs over evil and if it was devil worship they would not have the good triumph. Twillight on the other hand sucks and i agree. Also in Lord of the Ring in the second movie when the hobbits are forced to drink blood does that mean respected author J. R. R. Tolken is a satanist? I think not.

It's funny how some people think Harry Potter is devil worship when I could say I've learned a lot of good life lessons from the series (like bravery, friendship, decision-making, and such) and it hadn't influenced me to do something wrong.

P.S. my dad is a pastor and he even helped me find a copy of the first Harry Potter book so I could give it to my little brother as a Christmas present. He used to talk me out of it before but after a while he realized that Harry Potter isn't all about anything bad at all.

I'm Catholic and go to an all girls Catholic school
I read Harry Potter at 6 and Twilight at 13
My mum once said as a joke that JK Rowling was a heathan because of the voldermort thing, buy I pointed out to her:
They are both fictasious (sp?)
Harry Potter got many little kids to start reading
And most importanttly:
Both of these books are about good triumphing over evil
How can that be bad?

So if I took a stick, pointed it at something, and shouted, "Expecto Patronum", that would make me a Satanist? I don't think so.

The Voldemort part should be null and void, because he's supposed to be evil. In Harry Potter, we're rooting for Harry, not Voldemort.

In my opinion, not only is it a fictional story, but it's not real.
The end.

I think people are reading way to much into this stuff. I don't think the authors of either of these books meant Satanism, I think they meant to write books that young people enjoy. It's so hard to get teens and pre-teens to read these days, I say all the more power to them.

I think people just need to look after the fact that Harry Potter and Twilight is completely fictional. It's just for good reading. I'm sure JK Rowling and Stephenie Meyer were not writing a book just to throw off it's concept. And I'm 100% sure that they would not write a book for religious purposes. However, people are allowed to think what they want, but this whole "devil worship" idea is out of the question. What these authors have written about is completely irrevelant to this "worship."

The Twilight and Harry Potter series blow people's faces off. :p

Blood doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Satanism.

But, I think saying HP teaches kids how to do witchcraft or practice Satanism is very... ridiculous.

Or should I say Ridikulus? :tehe:

I agree.
Some of my friends also believe it's devil worship but I think thats silly.
We're not worshipping the book (or I'm not) and I'm not copying their 'evil ways.'

They are interesting story plots. So what if its impossible? That's what makes it cool. But I know a bunch of people who've read both books and there is no way that they worship the devil.

Let's say I walk into my school tomorrow morning, and tell people around me from the legend of dracula. Or maybe about Werewolves instead. Crazt people running around killing others in all kinds of unnatural ways. Jumping extreemly high and running impossibly fast, wich is all physicly impossible.
Would they beleave me?
Wouldn't they say it was all impossible?

Now if next sunday, someone in a dress tells you that someone survived death, brought other back from the dead, turned water into wine and walked on water.
Would you beleave?
I think you already do

Hypocryte are we?

Alright, well I am a Christian and I have read HP and Twilight and I am in love with them. Honestly people believe what they want to believe, reading those book is not devil woship. As long as you believe they are fictional and do not start to actually practice things done in the book it is not devil worship. Yes the books talk about drinking blood, alchemy, and other things that have to do with the devil but it's purely fiction.

In addition to that i would like say that I read a lot and i read a lot of books by Christian authors who write about death and murder and kidnapping and adultery so does that mean that I worship the devil because i read books about those or that the authors who wrote those books worship the devil? no.

Every book is good vs. evil no matter what you read, and the quote from Genesis at the beginning of Twilight is referring to Edward and Bella. Bella is supposed to be the forbidden fruit.

Anyways people will believe anything that is fed to them and eventhough I am Christian I love HP and Twilight and calling it Devil Worship is just stupid, most kids dont even think about religion while reading those books.

anyways people are stupid HP and Twilight rock

Wow, I've heard about music that's been called the music of the devil (metal etc)
But not books, and especially not HP and Twilight.
I've read both and I've never ever even thought about Satan while reading them.
This is just a load of bullshit in my opinion.
I doubt the purpose of JKR and Meyer's books are to turn kids into devil worshipers.
But hey, some people are willing to blame and blackmouth just about everything.
Video games turn kids violent, TV gives them bad ideas, Music makes kids depressed... and now books turn us into kids of Satan!

Wow that is wow. I heard about harry potter being called devil worship books but Twilight? that is new to me.
I personally love both of them. That is stupid. I say religion is something men used back in old days to tell everyone how we got here and stuff. I also thinks it is too keep people in fear.

That's so stupid. I can't believe people actually think that about a book.
I don't think it's devil worship at all. They're just harmless books that people read for fun. Some people are into religion way too much.

that is the biggest load of ignorance and intolerance i have ever heard!
my aunt tried to keep me from reading those books for the same reason -.-
The thing about overly religious people is they don't see all the other intersting things, fun, and lessons the books can teach, such as the value of friendship and such ( corny, i know ). All they see are the things they wanna see and wanna keep their kids from. The fact is, most kids are too into the actual story to even pay much attention to that stuff anyway.
