Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) is the sequel to Left 4 Dead and was released by Valve Corporation in November 17, 2009 for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360. Again, set after the apocalypse pandemic, they focus in on four new survivors as well as new zombie characters. Other new features included new weapons, levels, and game-play. Before it's release, it was met with both good and bad reviews. Once taking flight on November of 2009, it was met as positively as the first.

Gameplay

Of course, as a sequel, I had quite high expectations. Becoming a big fan of the first game, I was blown away severely by the second. Characters were able to carry up to five categories of each equipment and I fell in love with melee weapons that wasn't seen in the first game. The new health kits introduced to this new environment helped inhance the gameplay as well as give players a bit more confidence in choosing higher levels of difficulty.

Game Modes

Left 4 Dead 2 includes four game modes that players can choose from.

  • Campaign: You can play by yourself or with three others in a fight against the infected to stay alive. Of course, you can also choose single player mode and go against the horde without friends and just the back up of computerized controlled Survivors.
  • Versus: You can play on an online base with other players where four players will take on the character of Special Infected and try to stop the Survivors (the other team) from completing a stage.
  • Survival: A timed challenge where Survivors are trapped in a section of the campaign maps and try to survive as long as they possibly can
  • Scavenge: A new 4-on-4 mode that requires the Survivors to collect and use as many fuel cans that they can in an area of the map while infected players try to stop them.

New Infected Characters

From the prequel, the basic infected characters consisted of the Hunter, an agile and predator like zombie that has incredible strength and can pounce from great distances; the Boomer, a bloated infected zombie that attacks Survivors with bile which also brings in a small horde for an attack; the Smoker, an infected male with a smoker cough and long whip-like tongue that can ensnare Survivors and choke them; the Tank, a gigantic, ape like beast that can upturn cars and punch Survivors several feet from their spot; and the Witch, a crying, infected woman that is provoked or startled by Survivors and light.

Now with the sequel, we are introduced with three new special infected characters.

The Charger is a male infected with a giant right arm and can pummel into one survivor, taking them long distances. When he gets a hold of Survivor, he pounds them into the ground without letting go.

The Spitter is a female infected that spits out balls of stomach acid that splatters and sizzles across an area. Once killed, she also discharges this acid.

The Jockey is a male infected that jumps upon a Survivors back and steers them away from their teammates. Sometimes into other infected or hazardous areas.

With these new characters, levels and modes to play from, Left 4 Dead 2 has also recieved great reviews from players all around. I highly recommend this to anyone who was a fan of Left 4 Dead
