haha yeah, bruno was okay. it was funny in some parts, but nothing really "cracking up" worthy. but the major downfall was definitely the amount of nudity. it was pretty extreme, for my taste at least.
I only recently saw Borat, and because of it I wasn't looking forward to watching Bruno. That put the icing on the cake, I will not be seeing Bruno at all.
Hey, at least he didn't trick people into acting in this one.
I don't think we should expect homophobia to be perfectly socially acceptable and "hyped". -shrug-
it's just distasteful and sick. there is /intelligent/ humor. Sacha Baron Cohen is just incapable of it.
Awh man. I saw that movie the night it came out, and my friend and I went to go see it. We knew it wasn't going to be all happy, we KNEW it was going to be offending. I mean, come on. Especially since we're only 14, and had seen Borat. We knew to anticipate nudity. I got a few chuckles out though. It was a good movie, I guess; it was worth my 10 dollars.
Erm, I didn't like Bruno very much. The humor isn't really my taste, and call me oversensitive, but I found myself closing my eyes in reflex at a few parts. Overall, I thought the movie was kind of stupid, no offense to those who liked it.
It all depends on your taste. Sacha Baron Cohen's way of being funny is insulting people. you can either be offended or be the kind of person who can enjoy being laughed at themselves :D
I happen to be Gay and was laughing throughout the entire film!
I still want to see it. It looks funny.
The movie is supposed to be offensive. Besides, the commercials for it should have given away the material that was in it.
Borat was extremely offensive as well, you know. He pissed off a lot of people with that movie, including the entire nation of Kazakhstan. (Yeah, it's real).
Now, I rather like Sacha Baron Cohen. he's a... unique comedian, and I like the idea of going around and taking people out of their element. I've seen some episodes of Da Ali G Show, which is very funny, and I saw the entirety of Borat. As squick-worthy as it was (I covered my eyes during that nude wrestling scene... ew), in the end it was quite entertaining and very quotable.
I'll take your opinion into consideration, but I'd rather see the movie myself.
and i agree with wild light. the movie was meant to be offensive and if you couldnt take the jokes you shouldnt have gone. if you cant laugh then this isnt a movie for you.
i personally thought it was very funny. and hell im bi and my two best friends i went with were gay and they werent offended in the least.
maybe next time sacha baron cohen makes a movie you shouldnt go?
the thing is this movie is just demonstrating how stupid certain stereotypes are, and its supposed to be over-the-top, i mean didn't you see borat? its not something to cry over or to get extremely offended by, regardless of how 'inappropriate' the jokes are, its supposed to be that way, its not like you didnt have fair warning :S i mean its sacha baron cohen dont expect some deep heartfelt film about someone striving for fame and all the hardships that entails, honestly its supposed to be a fun take on the way stereotypes have been entrenched in our soceity thats all, dont put too much value to any of it
First off, from the commercials, it should be quite obvious that it is going to be out-of-line and offending. But people get offended, it's today's society. You however, should have been expecting it.
The movie was indeed very funny.
I have nothing against gays, and infact, myself and my gay friend went to go see it. He should have been offended, he had the most reason too, but he wasn't.
This movie is all about perspective. About who's watching it. If you understand the jokes. You, clearly, did not.
