World War Z - Comments

  • @ Write.with.Love
I just meant that if you've watched other zombie movies and are used to the cliche, this one will throw you off and be completely different from the ones you're used to. Plus, after reading both of Max Brooks' books (what the movies are based off of), I was expecting them to be the cliche shambling type (much like they were during the bio-lab scene).

Sad I suck at wording, sorry for the confusion.

What through me off with your comment was "if you're used to seeing zombie movies, and have a pretty good idea what a zombie would actually be like in a real zombie apocalypse..." What does that even mean? It's clear that you're used to seeing zombie movies, but how would you know what a real zombie apocalypse would be like? Why would you want to see something so cliche anyways? Plus, it was stated in the movie that there was an outbreak of rabies, so I don't think it was meant to be a normal zombie movie.

Believe me, I was sitting quite far back and it was still scary and making me jump! XD

  • I saw this movie about two weeks ago with my family from Georgia, and as it was a restaurant/movie place you were able to order food and watch the movie at the same time, the only downside being that you didn't get to choose your seats.

Our seats were the closest to the screen, so we literally had to incline our necks up and slouch back in order to see it. And being so close to the screen? It made it ten times scarier. I was jumping throughout the whole movie.

Regardless, the plot is wonderful even though it was sort of predictabls, and I loved all of the little "facts" about zombies were thread throughout the film as it went along. I would most definitely go pay money to see this movie again. Except maybe I'd see it from a safe distance where it doesn't look like zombies are going to come out of the film screen.

Yeah, I'm definitely glad that there wasn't a long boring intro that somehow linked to the end. It was just straight into it and that was exactly what it need to have.

  • I loved this movie. The night I went to see it, my friend didn't tell me what we were going to watch, I didn't really even care, but holy crap. I'm so happy she didn't tell me because I might have been turned off by the title - not an action movie type of girl, ya know? - but damn! It was awesome! Literally five minutes into the movie, the action starts.

  • I had looked forward to watching this movie because I had read the book of the same name by Max Brooks, thinking that the story would play out more or less the same. I think you do the movie a lot more justice if you go in not knowing that there was a book called World War Z.

In the book, the narrative is composed of smaller accounts of the "zombie war". The movie does tie in to a lot of the events, the only difference being that it focuses on a single character experiencing ALL of the accounts on his own. As for the zombies, they do follow the rules established by Brooks in both WWZ and the Zombie Survival Guide, with the exception that they are all extremely fast zombies. (In the book, a zombie is only as fast as they would've been as a human.)

But forgetting about the book, the movie was actually pretty good. It started off really fast in my opinion, as if EVERYBODY in the movie already knew what was going on and knew what to do. There wasn't a cliche "shoot em in the head, that seems to do the trick" line thrown in, but every character seemed to know that it was effective. My biggest issue with the movie, however, was the scenes involving huge mountains of CG'd zombies climbing buildings and walls on top of each other; if you're used to seeing zombie movies, and have a pretty good idea what a zombie would actually be like in a real zombie apocalypse, even the rage virus zombies of 28 Days/Weeks Later seem a lot more believable.

Of course, I won't give any spoilers, but I felt the ending was just...lacking. The entire movie I couldn't get the feeling out of my head that the other actors could've used more screen time. Don't get me wrong, Brad Pitt was incredible, but I thought characters like Segan (Daniella Kertesz), should've been a little more important than just a side character/companion. In terms of the fear factor, I only thought there were only one or two scary parts in the movie, but they were really good ones and even the extremely buff guy sitting next to me in the theater jumped and squealed (we both laughed our asses off at that). My verdict? It was pretty good in terms of general movies, but as for zombie movies, it's somewhere in between the morbid horror of the 28 Days/Dawn of the Dead movies and the over-the-top action of Resident Evil.

Watch it once, it's worth it.

  • @ Iris.
I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I did Cute I think "solid" is a great way to describe it.

  • I saw this in theaters a few days ago and I thought it was amazing. I thought that it was really freaky with all the zombies and the special affects. Everything was well done and it was overall, a really solid movie. I would so spend money to see it again!

  • I went to see this movie about 2 week ago with a friend. It was about 15 minutes before the movie started and we were the only ones there! Only when the words "World War Z" popped up, 4 more people joined.

An empty room? For a movie that just came out?

Even though I was slightly concerned about the lack of people, I continued to watch it. And to be honest I expected a lot more. It wasn't scary, it was hardly a thriller but it did have its moments.

I won't waste my money on seeing it again, but if you really want to view this movie, I would wait until it cane out on DVD on even television.
