I watched it with a friend on DVD in broad daylight and still managed to get creeped the fudge out. It was funnier the second time we watched it. But the movie itself was alright; not exceptionally scary but creepy enough to have you looking over your shoulder for a few days. Jewish demonic stories can be quite scary when put into movies.

Honestly, the reason I dragged my two guy friends to the theater to see this when it came out was more because of Jeffrey Dean Morgan than the story line. (I love him, and I thought it was funny that the guy who played John Winchester on Supernatural was drawn back into another demonic situation.) I wasn't really expecting much out of the movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was creepy and suspenseful and emotional, and I really loved it. The excellent script and phenomenal acting of all of the cast members--particularly Mr. Morgan, of course--were just completely perfect. All of that perfection was just added to when I found out that it was an exaggerated retelling of a true story. The Dibbuk Box actually exists, and, while strange things did happen to the owners, it was nothing so drastic as full-on possession. Of course, Hollywood had to make a good story out of it, full of action and terror, and it actually didn't bother me like Hollywood retellings often do. Like I said, I really loved it, and it was funny seeing my big, muscular guy friend have a spaz attack at the end! Lovely review, and I'm glad that someone else loved this as much as I did!

I agree. Most people weren't exactly pleased with this movie, but I thought it was pretty good (and different). My only complaint would be the ending. I get that directors try and avoid the cliche happy ending in horror movies, but lately, it's become more cliche to make horror movies have a sad ending, or an ending that pisses people off. I don't know, I just personally wasn't a fan of the twist, I feel like it would've been a fine ending if it ended right after the exorcism.
