I've been a Doctor Who fan since watching re-runs of the Tom Baker era and the then new episodes of the Peter Davidson era back home in Chicago on WTTW (PBS), so we're talking early 80's. I've done the conventions, met Tom Baker and Peter Davidson (and others), have seen every episode (even partials, including Shada [sp]) that has been made.

There is just something about the Doctor that speaks to people - no matter which regeneration he's currently in. Time Lords have 13 regenerations. With Matt Smith, we have the 11th Doctor, but the 10th regeneration. The first Doctor (Harnell) isn't a regeneration, but his original form ... so the 2nd Doctor is the 1st regeneration (Troughton).

Tom and Peter are my 1st Doctors ... and are still my favorites ... which share a three-way-tie with David Tennant. David and I are of similar ages, so he shares the same first Doctors as I. David truly understood the Doctor and became him. He did an amazing job. Chris before him also did a fantastic job in portraying the Doctor. I saw the pain and anger he carried in watching his people and home planet destroyed in the wars with the Daleks.

Thank you for putting up this review of Doctor Who. It is one show that needs more attention and the current cast is doing just that. Doctor Who premieres in the United States on BBC America this weekend and they have been in New York at conventions and other events, doing advance screenings and more.

multiple series's were burnt in a warehouse fire causing allot of valuable episodes to go missing. time lords only have 14 regenerations and so far the dr has used 11 or 12 of them so far David Tennant was my favorite dr and i think Matt Smith might not do to well i mean he has allooooot to stand up to

Nowadays, you can't see every single episode of Doctor Who ever made. Around the 70's, a lot of episodes went missing. You can see where they start in colour, I think, with Jon Pertwee, but a lot of the episodes prior to that are taped copies, unable to be shown on TV because of their quality (/Wiki fact).

Matt Smith has enormous converse to fill. David Tennant is the best Doctor since the show began, beating out Tom Baker (as voted for by Doctor Who Adventures readers). He was funny, charming, clever and oddly serious at times. He's by far my favourite Doctor, considering it's his last series that I actually sat down and watched properly. I have now developed an obsession with the show.

Christopher Eccleston was also a fantastic Doctor. It's not the fact that he was Northern (even though, that sways my opinion greatly, as not may great people on TV nowadays seem to be Northern; and yet, David Tennant is Scottish), but he had his way of making people laugh.

I've seen every episode of NuWho (or, I thought I had, as I haven't seen the one where the Tenth Doctor meets the Fifth Doctor...) and wouldn't change how it ended if it killed me. As David said, if he'd stayed longer it would have ended up feeling like a job.

And the last five minutes of The End of Time pt. 2, made me sure I was going to continue watching it, even though Matt Smith isn't my Doctor. He's funny, and that's what matters to me. Comedy is the tune on my heartstrings.

Plus, it's not the looks that count!

Doctor Who rocks; I wish I'd been introduced to it sooner. Or, at least born sooner so I could see the oldest ones. My Dad used to watch it in the sixties, when he was very young, and enjoyed it. (It's too modern for him now, I think).

    The theme-tune is my ringtone...

Anomaly, I don't know if anyone's answered your question yet, but you can find it in America on the BBC and occasionally on the SciFi (/SyFy) channel as well. If you have netflix, you can watch a lot of the show instantly online.
As for who actually sings in the songs, I don't know, but you can find the music on itunes on a Doctor Who Soundtrack (and then you can probably find it elsewhere online, too). I think they often just site Murray Gold as the artist, but that's because he writes it.

Doctor Who really is my favorite show. It's so sad there aren't many people in America that have even heard of it. *fun fact* did you know the first pilot episode had to be shown the next day because it was interupted with news of the Kennedy assassination?

I would just like to point out that David Tennant is still the doctor. Matt doesn't 'officialy' become the Doctor until 2010.
