Zack Baker loves Annabel Lee and can't imagine his life without her. He plans to marry her when they finish school. He and his two friends, Matt and Jimmy are in a band. They spend as much time as they can working on their music-writing songs, practicing their instruments, etc. Zacky has known Matt since middle school, and considers him his best friend in the world. He tells Matt everything, including his true feelings and fears about Annabel

Matt Sanders is Zack's best friend. He would do anything to help his friends, and though he looks "mean and scary", he's really a big softie with a heart of gold. His whole life revolves around his band. He has decided against college because he wants to be a musician. He wants nothing more than to be signed to a label and would give up everything in his life for it.

Jimmy is Annabel's best friend. He has known her since kindergarten and has been in love with her forever. He knows that Annabel only sees him as a friend, so he's never told her his real feelings. Jimmy used to pick on Zack until Annabel started dating him. Jimmy's first priority is Annabel and her happiness. He would do anything for her, even if that means being Zack's friend.

Johnny is a friend of Zack's younger brother Matt. He wants so badly to fit in with the cool kids and he'll do anything to be part of their "group". He is learning to play the bass so that he can join their band. He gets picked on by the guys a lot, mostly because he's so much younger than they are. Johnny's all for having a good time and is down for anything-the crazier the better.
