Characters

  • Eino Essbjörn

    Eino Essbjörn

    Gender:
    Male
    Age:
    28
    Orientation:
    Bisexual

Eino remains an enigma. Where he was going when he finds Ville or what he was doing we're never really told, but this is reflective not just of the episode of their meeting but of Eino in general. There are parts of himself, and his life, that for (seemingly) no reason he prefers to be hidden, including his well-concealed sexual orientation. By nature, he is uncomplicated and speaks his mind, often coming off a little unintelligent but really remaining indifferent. He is unhappy with his life as Ville meets him, but in Ville finds the encouragement to change his situation for himself and become a more contented person.

  • Ville Valo

    Ville Valo

    Gender:
    Male
    Age:
    35
    Orientation:
    Bisexual

In the story, Ville is thirty-five and at an odd sort of breaking point in his life. Naturally prone to dark thoughts, he struggles not to sink into the depths of despair when the thoughts of his tradgedy threaten to overwhelm him. Complex and at odds with himself following the death of his girlfriend, he is able to find in Eino the inspiration to go on, not just in his presence and friendship, but him fresh, simple take on things.

  • Marja

    Marja

    Gender:
    Female
    Age:
    28
    Orientation:
    Straight

Marja is Eino's girlfriend but, more importantly, is disabled from a car crash as an indirect result of Eino. Apparently tied up in her own jealousy of the walking population and closed off from the world, she flinches at other peoples' kindness and shrinks from her boyfriend's touch. At a first glance, Marja is bitter, unkind and a lost cause; on closer inspection, she is integral to Eino's personality and attitude and a highly significant character.
