Saikai is a kindhearted Japanese girl whose innocence and cutesy, feminine charm fits perfectly with her clothing style: sweet Lolita. She lives a decent life with her grandparents in Hokkaido, Japan because her mother died during childbirth and her father is a diplomat to the United States and Europe. She has an older half-brother who is both Korean and Japanese, and he also lives in Hokkaido. She mostly likes upbeat pop music, but secretly enjoys Vidoll, Breaking Benjamin, and Girugamesh. Saikai means "reunion" in Japanese.

Kougou is a sickly, pale teen with a dark, mysterious air about him. His ability to foresee the deaths of those around him makes him cold and aloof, and deeply harrowed. His trauma from foreseeing the death of his mother has caused him to emotionally and academically shut down, and he seems to drift from one place to another, his gaze apathetic and hazy. The most prominent physical trait are the green streaks in his hair.
