If you ask anyone about Jacey, even her friends, the first word they are likely to come out with is slut. She isn't ashamed of the things she does or how she acts. Although not all of her friends aprove of the way she acts, they still treat her as a friend and let her hang around with them. Matt openly admits that he thinks she's trash, but he still calls her a friend.

The year seven boy that Matt sort of mentors at cross country. He is Ashley and Torrie's younger brother and struggles with making friends in his own year. He isn't affraid of expressing himself, but most of the time when he does, he only gets hurt.

Torrie is one of the more popular girls at school who you wouldn't really want to mess with. She isn't afraid to become violent if she has to, but she doesn't throw herself around as much as her friends do either. That's one of the reason why Nate feels attracted to her. Although neither of them are shy, they've never really showed their feelings for each other. Torrie is Ashley's twin sister, but they have completely different personalities.

Ashley is the first proper friend that Riley makes at the school. Most people in the school think that she's quite shy and quiet, but when she gets to know people that opinion changes quickly. Ashley isn't considered as one of the most popular girls, but she does tend to be included with things because of her twin sister, Torrie.

Nate is Matt's best friend from school, but he doesn't like the idea of having competition for that role in Matt's life when Riley comes to the school. Nate is also a jock at the school and has a close relationship with Mr. Philips (Matt's dad). He is also considered as a 'player' and isn't afriad to express his views, especially when it comes to his homophobic attitude.

Riley and Matt have been friends from a young age, but they hadn't been to the same school before. When Riley's mum and dad split up though, they're forced to move to a much rougher area; a new school and a new house. Since the divorce, his family have been struggling with money problems. Riley's problems get worse when he has to help bringing the money in.
