Just another sixteen year old from the Bay Area: occasional smoker, listens to a wide variety of music, and seems to have a lot of friends, but this is all a facade. In fact, one of the most invisible people she knows, not the really type to get noticed. She's so quiet that she can go days only speaking to her two best friends and ex boyfriend. Violet doesn't really care about school, but always manages to pass the year. Not too close to her parents, she fights with them more often than the average teenager, which often leads to her leaving the house.

Rodrick seems like a male version of Violet, except he's louder and more daring, which often leads to clashes between the two. But somehow he always seems to offer his friendship to her, even after he pretty much ruins any chances of them being friends on the first day of school. Everyone is surprised by the bad boy offering his friendship to the new kid, a loner and a girl at that. The only girls that he's friends with are his friends' girlfriends, and he's never had a steady girlfriend, mostly just a stream of them, and none lasted longer than a month.
