Former peasant, started working as maid to the Princess when her family was killed in a raid. Her only remaining relative is her sister Abby Brogan, who works as a lesser maid in Mulciber. She basically raised the Princess, and therefore can be quite motherly. Very protective and fairly confrontational, but not stupid. She hates to admit when she's wrong.

Ember Mae is technically half-witch (human father, magical mother), and therefore she has the ability to channel energy like a witch, but it damages her body because she isn't really built to withstand it very well. She is incredibly charismatic and earns trust easily from nearly everyone. In a long-term relationship with fellow female character Juvenis Rexroth.

- Long black hair - Copper skin (think Gypsy) - Dark hazel eyes - Athletic, boyish figure - 5'7" - Very sharp features Juvenis had an incredibly violent, disturbed background. She worked as a prostitute and a ***er for several years before falling in love with Ember and deciding to live with her. Though she was pretty liberal with a blade, she made a point of killing only rapists and men who abused women.

- Very petite and sort of pre-pubescent - Short blonde hair - Brown eyes - Freckles Ella lives in the village in which Ember and Juvenis have taken up residence. Her parents often fight and she finds solace in the company of the female couple. They filled the role of her parents, and she later tags along on some of their adventures. Her dream is to be a courier.
