Holly comes from a privileged home. Her father is a high priced lawyer, her mother does nothing. But she'd rather a relationship with them than her father's money. She spent most her childhood in boarding school before finally convincing her parents to let her stay home a year into high school. Her relationship with her parents is strained and neither end has tried to fix that. Most pin her as spoilt and a brat because of her behavior but Holly doesn't think these people know her well enough.

Daniel is a shy, quiet boy until you get to know him. His determined and would do anything for those he cared about. His family started to fall apart when he was young. His little sister died in an accident. His older brother went off the rails and started taking drugs. His mother died not long after. But through it all Daniel had struggled to keep his family together as he can keep it. After his brother goes to prison all that's left is Daniel and his mentally decaying father. He was giving up on hope for the first time in his life...then he meet her.

Ian is Daniel's father, and Holly's nightmare. He once had a family to care for and was a strong minded man. After the death of his little girl and the love of his life things got bad. He struggled to look after his sons but only ended up drifting away from them. At the same time his sanity and state of mind started to slip. By the time his oldest son was committed into prison it was to late to help him with any mental issues. In nothing more than desperation and spite he makes a huge mistake which inevitably ruins what family he had left with Daniel.

Jayce is pretty much Holly's best friend. They meet at a local skate park several years back when she showed him up on his own bike. Jayce comes from a good family. His parent's are divorced. He has a good relationship with both parent's and also his mother's husband and his step father. It's rumored amongst the group that he has a crush on Holly. Though the other boys only seem to pick on him about this why she isn't in hearing distance.
