Rose Brooks, non-identical twin to Iris, is a beautiful African-American girl with dark, natural hair. Pictured here is actress Nina Mae McKinney who, when I found her photograph, I knew was exactly who I had pictured Rose to be. She is the more timid of the two sisters, but will do anything for anyone. Her love knows no bounds - sometimes to a fault.

Magalakutway Perez, known as Mallie to all who know her, is half-Shawnee, half-Mexican. She comes from a mysterious background filled with tales of parents who suffered extreme bias and bigotry, and over the years has become the honorary caretaker to the rest of the friends in her group. Though she gives leadership honors over to Bette, Mallie is often the first in the group to speak up, and indeed to stand up to others. Her fair skin often has others mistaking her for white, but she is proud of her heritage and does everything she can to stay true to her roots. Pictured is actress Raquel Torres, who I believe captures the look of Mallie, though perhaps with a bit more flair than Mallie would ever choose to show.

Iris, non-identical twin sister to Rose, is by far the most intelligent of her group. Her mind is always figuring out logistics, planning, arranging meetings. Though she is quiet, she is only so because she is constantly thinking, and often she is the one in the group who makes the most logical proposals. Her greatest influences are her parents, who were both teachers in their lives before the Depression, and she has lived her life in pursuit of all things higher education. Her dark skin is splattered with freckles, and her jet black hair is often in curls around her face. Pictured as my inspiration is Francine Everett.

Laura is the newest friend of the group - a petite girl with light brown hair and an athletic frame. Her simple beauty attracts all manner of people, and this is a fact that she often uses to her advantage. She comes from a very large family of white supremacists, and because of this, she cannot bring her closest friends to her home. As a result, she is not often at home, spending the majority of her time with the Kinsellas or the Brooks. Pictured is an original photo I acquired in a purchase, and the face of this girl just struck me as that of a badass. Hence, Laura Kepler was born.
