Sam is Jobie's best friend. She's beautiful and adventurous, often getting into trouble and easily talking her way out of punishment. She's head over heels in love with her boyfriend Chris and talks about their relationship as though it will last forever. She thinks the world of Jobie and tells her so, often giving Jobie false hopes about love and relationships.

Gary is Sam's neighbor and Jobie and Sam's mutual close friend. He lives on his parents' horse farm and takes care of all of their horses by grooming and training them, often bringing them to competitive showings. He's content to live in the country and have a peaceful life. Gary has been in love with Jobie since the first day he met her, but he's only ever told Sam how he feels.

Heather is Jobie's mother's boyfriend's daughter. She's staying with her father in Jobie's house for the summer. Heather is overly flirtatious and she shows off her body so often that it makes Jobie uncomfortable, but inside, she is damaged from past trauma that she doesn't often talk about. Even though Jobie detests her, Heather secretly wishes that they had more of a sisterly relationship.

Brad is Jobie's mother's boyfriend's son and is staying with his father in Jobie's house for the summer. He is incredibly hyperactive and seemingly immature, doing whatever he can to grab anyone's attention, whether it's negative or not. He drives Jobie and his sister Heather crazy with his constant pranks and shenanigans. Perhaps not so secretly, he has a crush on Jobie and often tries to involve her in romantic encounters, despite her disgust.

Mike is Jobie's next door neighbor and long time love interest. His parents are both doctors and he's spoiled with a sense of entitlement. He's the basketball star of their high school and gets any girl he wants. When he was bored, he made out with Jobie in exchange for a cigarette and then never acknowledged it later. Gary already disliked him before, but due to his mistreating Jobie, Gary hates his guts.
