Very very very very good!

This was the perfect ending to me. I like Maria, and I think it's great that she has a husband and some kids that Nick loves even though he doesn't know them.
It's also great that a lot of questions were left unanswered. Like... Norah and William and everything else Nick and Birdie left behind. It's perfect to me. I love it when people end stories in an amazing way.
This is probably my favorite story.

but nick's relationship with maria is kind of a simpliar one, i guess, or not really.
she seems so warm and welcoming, i'm happy he had her.
and then birdie, that sweet finch, i'm glad she has nick and he has her.

this just ended so perfectly. i hope you know that.

Anyways, that really had nothing to do with the story. Anndd..Oh yeah, now I remember what I was going to say. I thought when Birdie kissed Nick I would be all like "How cute is that?" you know? Because Nick is all kinda sorta under wraps in love with Birdie even though it's kinda obvious. But it wasn't. It was kind of like... there. It was nice and all because I think it's what he wanted, but at the same time it was under crappy circumstances because he just killed a guy and could potentially go to prison.

And even if he didn't go to prison, I think that was sort of... it was like a special occasion kiss or something. I was glad it happened though. It just sucks because it wasn't.. I don't know the word, but I hope you know what I mean. I just took a state test today and my brain isn't working properly. I'm pooped. Anywyas... yeah.

Oh. My. Goodness.
This has to be the absolute best chapter in the whole entire world.
I mean... Matt is still in asshole in my book, because only an asshole rapes a girl. (Let alone a girl like birdie. She just seems so nice even though she's so... mentally tortured.)
But... I almost feel bad for him in a way. I know it sounds terrible feeling bad for Matt, but...
I think he regrets what he did. Sort of.
I'm so conflicted. I want to smack him and tell him it's not okay, but he isn't a completely terrible guy. Just sort of terrible.
I hate what he said about marrying Nick's sister after what he did to birdie. That was just... gosh... it was a butt head move.
Annnd yeahhh... before I go on for too long, I'll stop here.
This is my favorite chapter, although it may be replaced with the next one because that is how it always happens.

second, this story, it just has so much emotion in it.
i can't think if a better was to say that, but i'm not sure whether to laugh or cry tbh.

When I read this the first time, I was a little lost. I thought about the song like you had asked, and I sort of got it, but not really. Well... that's not right. I believe I understood the concept, I was just confused about little things. Like... why his parents were mad and who the hell was Tasha? So... I thought about listening to the song and re-reading the chapter. That helped, but I was still a little lost. Soo... I just listened to the song and didn't read anything. I just sat there and listened and I came to this conclusion.

The girl... Tasha... and the parents, I don't think that they're really key elements at the moment. Right now, at this point in the story I figure that the only thing that matters is that Nick is kind of... He's confused for lack of a better word because like...he wants to be with Ellie and he wants her to know how much he really does love her, but it's like... he can't tell her. And it's because he's like... he respects her too much, I guess. And I'm not sure if that whole things with Matt happened yet (at the point when he's like in the flashback), but if it did I suppose he also can't tell her because he doesn't want her to be afraid of him like she's afraid of Matt.

I think it's like that in the present time with them too. He's willing to keep everything holed up inside and like... basically suffer just to make her happy because she needs him more than he physically and sort of mentally needs her. At least I think that's the way it is in his mind. And that's why he keepts his "secrets gathered in pockets" and won't "sell" them for anything.

That's what I'm thinking.

And I'm sorry this comment is so long, I just felt like I had to get all of that out. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Poor William. I feel sorta bad for the kid.
It's obvious that he likes Nick and Nick loves Ellie and Ellie is just... poor Ellie.
Poor everyone except Matt because nobody should pity his kind.
