Nikkita was a hopeless romantic; she always had been. She chose to ignore all the negative stories she heard about marriage and relationships, and instead she focused on the stories that made happy, hopeful tears well her eyes and a swoon come from her mouth. She loved seeing elderly couples who still held hands as they took walks together, couples who snuck polite, short kisses in public when they thought no one else was looking, and partners who stared longingly into each other’s eyes – the rest of the world completely gone.

She met Lucas, who had now been her boyfriend for a little over two years, in the huge library of the huge St. Louis area university she had gone to. Their eyes locked on each other from a few tables away, and as she ducked her gaze down and blushed

“That’s why I’m with you,” she commented before taking a bite of her pasta and sending Lucas a smile as he laughed heartily and lightly touched her hand with his index finger in a show of affection as he locked his hazel eyes with her brown ones, making Nikkita’s heart swell in her chest and her smile stretch even wider.

ughhhh, alyssa, this is pure love <3 i honestly cannot thank you enough for writing this for me, i'm so thankful and grateful and appreciative; i love the way that this is written and how miniscule tj is right now. just a boy at the pool who ruined my book, and i have no idea that he's going to change everything. i love how you honestly got me so well, you captured me perfectly without any faults and i love that i worked at a police station before!! so exciting!
