The Ant and the Boot - Comments

  • Thank heavens, finally an update!!! It's been so long, that I had to re-read the entire story! I am still in love with it! Love the way that the character of Dove is unfolding, growing. And Steve...look at him trying to step up! I am sure you have oher plans for the continuation of this story...but it would make such an amazing story line to have him step in as a partner & dad! As much as I have always loved Loki for his misguided feelings.
Hope to see more soon, dont let us wait this long again! Please!

  • I'm so glad you posted another chapter! I have to say that it was quite an enjoyable read. It seems that so far in this relationship, Dove is going to be forced into staying with Loki. I don't really see a way for her to escape it unless Loki has a sudden change of heart, which seems unlikely. I am curious to see if Loki's plan will go as he expects or if it will completely backfire on him. Either way, Dove will be upset.

It truly is a pity that Dove and Steve can't be together. It is nice seeing Thor being such an understanding older brother figure. I wonder what words he has for Loki if he could speak with him right now. I must say that I absolutely loved the way Tony described Steve and Dove doing some inappropriate things. Tony's observations of Dove's changes are quite astute as well. I admit I feel sorry for Dove who is stuck between duty and personal interests.

Overall, my opinions of Loki and Dove haven't changed much from my previous comments. Keep up the good work! I look forward to the next chapter.

  • First thing off the top of my head, I wouldn't call Loki an "asset." He's more like a double-edged sword. I have to say that he is just set up perfectly to do something unforgivable and lose Dove for good. With the way things are now, he's going for the have-his-cake-and-eat-it-too route, but I'm sure everyone knows that it never works out that way.

In terms of his birthright to a throne, I think that's more to blame on nurturing. I can't say I think Odin is the worst person in the world, but he could have been a bit better. As someone who is adopted I can tell you that being told early that you are can make a huge difference. If both Loki and Thor knew about Loki's heritage as children, things may have turned out differently than now. I have absolutely no idea whether or not this would change Loki's opinion about taking the throne though.

Kudos to Dove for standing her ground more. I empathize with her about her complicated feelings towards a loved one. It's most certainly hard to turn someone away when you remember the good days with them. When you have that type of problem, it ends up being "do those good times outweigh the bad?".

Due to Loki's ambitions, I'd say he's a lost cause, except that the quote, "Just because someone stumbles and loses their way, it doesn't mean they're lost forever" from Charles Xavier of X-Men rings in my ears. The biggest test for Loki will be when he encounters the one that bleeds black. That will either be his redeeming point or condemnation. I look forward to seeing how that turns out and I must say my fingers are crossed that it works out well.

In short, if Loki truly does love Dove and his child, he should find it in himself to look past his own ambitions. By extension, he should also be able to let her go if it means she is happier and safer.

Vineirys, you have my condolences for your loss. I wish you and your family the best. Don't worry about not sticking to your release schedule. Real life issues should take priority. Best wishes to you.

  • Nothing better than complicated love relationships to stir things up. I've pondered the relationships for a bit and I can't really predict how this will turn out. The choice would be much easier to make if Loki truly did not have feelings for her. Were that the case, Steve would be an obvious choice. However the situation being what it us, you have a toss up. Steve is clearly capable of wooing Dove. He also would make a fantastic father. I know people want Dove to end up with Loki (that's why people started reading this in the first place, because it was a pairing of an OC with the Trickster). You still cannot ignore the fact that even though Loki is trying to turn a new leaf, he has been more or less a psychopath for eons. Realistically a person cannot just change their nature at the drop of a hat.

Ultimately Dove will have to decide if Loki's redeeming qualities outweigh everything else and trust that he can be the ideal ideal father for their child or if she should explore other options such as Steve.

On another note, I do like the chemistry between Dove and Tony/Thor. Those two really do make good father/older brother figures. I think it was very clever to write the conversation between Steve and Dove through Tony's perspective. His thoughts and Pepper's reactions reflected the audience's probable reactions nicely.

I think that if Dove asks for advice on what she should do (which she may or may not, she is a very independent woman after all), she should ask someone that is unbiased meaning neither of the two previously mentioned big brothers. That being said I get the feeling that Banter may be a good choice even if he wouldn't want to be. Someone else could possibly work as well, but currently that's who I am favoring.

Thank you for the nee chapter! Can't wait to see what happens next.

  • I am glad to see this piece of internet gold back in action. I can honestly say it is the only reason why I have looked back into Mibba. Even during this story's long hiatus, I have not stopped raving about it to my friend. That being said, I'd better start with my insights on the latest chapter.

I must say I worry about Dove. Of course obviously because she is physically incapacitated, but also because of how she might change drastically because of her powers. At worst, I think she could start losing a bit of her humanity because of the Tesseract. How Loki reacts and wants to praise her is also worrying. That being said, I think Steve would do a wonderful job of keeping Dove grounded. The fact that he is in danger is worrisome. I am curious to see what Loki will do, how Steve will more or less confess to Dove, and how Dove will react and develop further.

Welcome back, and thank you for the fantastic new chapter as well as the brilliant ones before it.
