Survival - Comments

So against my better judgement, I decided to postpone writing an essay that's already a week overdue in order to read this. I will comment on how it progressed in the order it progressed...(if that make sense)

I'm not too sure on Marion. I like her character in terms of how strong-willed she is as well as how defiant she is in order to get her point across. But I don't have too high of an opinion of her as a general character. Hopefully she'll give more of an opinion to me throughout the story. Even though she's the main protagonist, I don't really have much to say on her. She was a brilliant female lead, both strong and still realistic (well, realistic in terms of her race from what I've perceived) but also annoyed me like any character that chooses the wrong path, like I believe she did.

Then enters Tobias and first of all, the name reminds me of Tobias Hankel from Criminal Minds, which isn't a very good first impression. But then he just strikes me as one of those men who constantly look down on women just because they bare children and that should be their only job - something which many of his group seems to think as well. Despite that, he seems very sure of himself and I guess that's something like about him because characters that are sure of themselves are a favourite of mine because they feel stable, y'know?

But then comes the character that I absolutely love: Otto (and his people). I really like how he comes in and is ready to defy Tobias in order to help Marion's cause, and that his people have a strong female lead as well (who is strong not only because she's a warrior but also because she can still bare a child - it's good to break stereotypes). I really liked the budding relationship between him and Marion and was devastated when Tobias manipulated Marion into shooting him with an arrow. I don't know about anyone else but the entire time (and still when I reached the ending) it was Tobias whom I had a sneaky suspicion over, and even though I am thrilled that Marion finally got a mate as well as being a warrior, I still believe that Otto was a grand character and Tobias concocted what he told Marion about him in order to turn her against Otto and have her as putty in his hands when it came to eliminating both his love rival and his leader rival. After all, if he wasn't the one to shoot Otto then he can honestly claim that he was not the one to kill him, despite those who believed he did, and would know that Marion would never give him up as Otto had declared his love for her before the battle and she would be hated by the ones who accepted her if it was ever found out.

I love fiction because it's open for interpretation and even if everything was explained within the story, I would still hold my opinions of the characters because that's how I perceive them. I also love how you never explained how the humans managed to find their spaceship and also how you ended this. It was so open that anything could happen - you had it where they had just lost a battle and were in tatters and weak instead of where they'd won. It's a fresh change to how some authors feel they have to end a story; just because they're the main characters doesn't mean they always have to be the ones triumphant in the end.

The fact that this was your NaNo novel is brilliant and I hope you're participating this November and producing another masterpiece?

Is that seriously it?! NOOOOOO!! O.O Then if it is ending there then at least make a very nice long and juicy epilogue X_X

How in the world have I not heard of this story before?! This is simply brilliant.

You've just introduced one of my favorite type of characters. A useful female who wants to fight and not just sit back. I can already tell I am going to be in love with this story, not only that, but the bow and arrow. That is one of my favorites, I've been wanting to take lessons since I was little.

I also like how it seems you aren't making her perfect with each and every weapon, which a lot of people seem to do, so there is lots of room for improvement.

I am simply in love with this story and I'm only on Two.

Your description of what I think is a gun is really good. Simply because that's how it would look to a being that has never seen one, and they would be confused at what it was doing.

Torturing them by pulling out their feathers? Sounds very painful. >.< I can't wait to read more of this, but I have to go, grr.

Anyways, getting onto the actual story, it's great! This plot has amazing potential to me and I think this is good enough to be published one day! :)
Your writing flows very nicely, you have a great vocabulary, and I'm like five inches away from my laptop's screen because I'm just dying to read about what comes next.
