I’m here as the new judge for the ‘That One Story’ contest.
I’ve never really watched Buffy, honestly. I’m aware of it and what it’s about because it’s an iconic show, but I never really watched it so I didn’t know any of these characters. It wasn’t much of a big deal as the story went on because I started to get a good grasp on my surroundings, both in atmosphere and characters. In the beginning, though, I was confused and a little lost. I felt like you hadn’t really introduced these characters to me so I better understood their motives and emotions, but you actually ended up doing it more spread out so it ended up being okay.
Your attention to detail and emotions was great. I really liked how you took advantage of writing in third person, shifting from one POV to another in an effortless and fluid motion. The POV shifts never broke the flow and never startled me because it all just melted into each other. First I was reading about Willow, then Spike, then Dawn a little bit and then back to Spike. You fit three very different perspectives into one chapter smoothly, which I loved. You showed a lot of different emotions in each perspective, too.
The little twist at the end definitely surprised me! So I ended up liking this, despite not knowing the show well.
