My guess from the chapter it happened? Alexa and Helena's dad teamed up. We already know her dad could mess up cars and wanted her dead, so I think that Alexa took Helena on that walk to distract her long enough for her dad to tamper with her car. And Alexa's scared look is a combonation of her being afraid of Helena following through and "gutting her like a fish" for hurting Gerard and being afraid that Helena figured out the whole car thing.

P.S. When Alexa is finished saying whatever she has to (for Helena's case) Can I help kill her with the million other people that want to?? I call first dibs and shove a crayon up her nose!
