Sid's way of prioritizing is the reason he and Caroline broke things off in the first place. Since she used to pretty much be in Jamie's place, Caroline tries to protect him while trying to make Sid really realize what he's doing and that he needs to make some changes in his life. And while he's starting to realize some things, the consequences of what he's doing hasn't really started to sink in yet. But while Caroline is trying to help, there's only so much she can do and is willing to do as Jamie will come first in her eyes.

Yeah, as a parent, you need to make priorities. And while your child(ren) cannot come first all the time, nor should they, you do need to balance their needs and wants against your own. I understand where Jamie is coming from. Kids are very perceptive and throwing money at problems, real or imagined, can never take the place of active and involved parenting. Kids should never be placed in the position of hoping for crumbs of attention and it can make kids act out in the good, bad, and horrifying ways. I feel bad for the kid and I feel bad for his mom, too. Thankfully she's not in a relationship with Sid right now because it's really hard to defend that kind of behavior towards one's child when there's no need for it. It's all about priorities and Sid's are skewed.
