I can sense some tension between the married couple. I can tell that Adrienne is a little frustrated with her husband, maybe that's not how you wrote it to be, but that's what I get when I read it.

I take the tray from his lap and take it downstairs, trying very hard not to jump and shout all the way over to the kitchen.
