Lunch Girl
Me and Matt silently worked out. It was good. A little serious but good. I wanted more fun like the other day with him and Melly. Or like when I'm eating lunch with Jenn.
Matt: tell me about the chick.
Brian: what?
Matt: the lunch girl.
Brian: she's sweet.
Matt: hot?
Brian: doesn't even begin to come close.
Matt: damn. She a fan?
Brian: yeah but she's not like...
Matt: I got it. How did you meet her?
Brian: a friend.
Matt: cool. Are you going ask her out or just stay friends? Cause lunch is totally pussy dude.
Brian: I'm taking it slow.
Matt: huh...taking it slow is how you keep a woman.
Brian: that's the rumor. Have to work for it or something.
Matt: yeah man.
Brian: its crazy and I'm about to sound like a total cake but just talking is perfect with her.
I shrugged.
Matt: you don't sound like a cake.
Brian: thanks.
Matt: don't let Zack hear you, he'll think you're a cake.
Brian: he's annoying.
Matt: he's Zack what do you expect? You'd think after ten years he would change. No.
We laughed.
Brian: I hope he never changes.
Matt: you won't have to worry about that.
Brian: I know. Melly seemed pretty happy the other day.
Matt: you did too.
Brian: I was.
Oh Jenn on my mind.
Matt: that lunch girl has you man.
Brian: we're done talking about her we're talking about Melly now.
Matt: fine lunch girl will be a mystery for now. Yes she was happier then the one day.
Brian: something is wrong with her.
Matt: maybe she just missed you a lot.
He smiled. I shook my head.
Brian: you guys been hanging out much?
Matt: me and Melly?
Brian: yeah.
Matt: no...no. Just the one time so far. I keep inviting her and James over. They cancel.
Brian: hopefully they make it to Big Bear.
Matt: I hope so.
We made our way out of the gym.
Matt: let's get something to eat.
Brian: no I've got go take a shower and get ready.
Matt: oooo...lunch girl?
Brian: yes lunch girl.
He smiled and shook his head.
Matt: I'm tellin' you man she's already got you. I'll see you around.
Brian: bye.
I got in my car and drove home. The ocean waves greeted my ears. As I got out of the shower I checked my phone for any missed calls.
Brian: Jenn? Hmmm...
I dialed her back.
Jenn: hey new friend.
She sounded a bit frantic.
Brian: what's up? I'm just getting ready to meet up with you.
Jenn: I can't make it today...
My face fell.
Brian: oh.
Jenn: sorry. Its really hectic today.
Brian: I understand.
Jenn: tomorrow.
Brian: sure sure.
Jenn: alright sorry again. Bye.
Brian: bye.
I glared at my phone. Not the phones fault. Now I had an entire free afternoon. Nothing to do. My sigh filled the room.
Brian: its for the better I guess. She is married. Never forget that. The ring on her finger doesn't let me forget that.
Lazily I dressed myself. Even more lazily I made it to the livingroom to watch some T.V. How fucking exciting. A Papa Roach video flashed across the screen. I flinched. Ugh like I wanted to see that shit. Jacoby screaming in my face. I turned it off.
Brian: you could...that is a very good idea.
I pushed myself off the couch and left my house. The aroma of fresh bread filled my nose. At the counter of the little sandwich shop a girl greeted me. She was probley eighteen. Cute. Brunette. Her name tag said Jackie.
Brian: hi Jackie. I'd like a turkey club. No tomato please.
Jackie: sure. Drink?
Brian: yeah ummm...raspberry ice tea.
Jackie: that it today sir?
Brian: yes.
She took my money and thanked me for coming. Polite girl. I'm sure its a part of the job. Patiently I waited for my order. There were some people sitting in the little shop. Random conversations filled the air. None sounded interesting. My number was called and I was out the door.
Brian: hi. I'm here to see Jenn.
The secretary looked me over. A smile sweeping over her face.
Sec: does she know you're here honey?
Brian: no its a surprise.
Sec: that's sweet. Are you the fabulous husband of hers she always talks about?
If only.
Brian: I'm uhh...
Sec: oh go right in. She's on the phone but it should be fine.
Brian: umm...ok.
She pointed me in the right direction and I made my way. I reached a door that read Jenn Shaddix. I smiled and quietly walked in. She is in a heated conversation on the phone. Papers were scattered all over her desk. I kept by the door until she was finished. A huff left her lips and she picked up some papers. Her eyes stared them down.
Jenn: fine we'll move the meeting to the twenty fifth.
Another huff left those lips as she hung up.
Brian: crazy day.
Her eyes snapped to me.
Jenn: what are you doing here?
Surprise and a smile in her tone. I held up the bag and drink.
Brian: I brought you lunch. Good thing to because you seem frazzled.
Jenn: you brought me lunch...
Brian: yes.
Jenn: you. Brought me lunch.
I gave a nod. Maybe this wasn't a good idea.
Brian: sorry.
Jenn: no...that's really sweet of you.
Her smile was hesitant.
Brian: I figured you'd need the energy if you're really busy.
Jenn: yeah. Have a seat. I've got like literally a minute.
I did as told and placed the bag on her desk.
Brian: nice office.
Jenn: real estate is nice to me.
Brian: I'll say.
The phone started ringing and she sighed.
Brian: I better go.
Jenn: they can wait. What did you bring me new friend?
Brian: turkey club. No tomato. With a raspberry ice tea.
Jenn: shit you got me right down to the ice tea.
Brian: I've got a good memory.
Jenn: you didn't have to bring me lunch.
The phone started ringing again. I stood up this time.
Brian: sure I did. I'm your new friend.
Jenn smiled.
Brian: I'm going now so you can work.
Jenn: boo fine.
She came around her desk and gave me a hug.
Jenn: it was really nice of you.
Brian: its no biggy. I wasn't busy.
She shook her head.
Jenn: every time I see you I always end up asking myself how do you not have a girlfriend.
Brian: Zacky.
I said seriously. She laughed. There went the phone again. She sighed.
Jenn: duty calls.
I nodded and left after a final hug. A smirk made its way on my face. My phone rang and I answered.
Brian: hello?
Jenn: thank you.
Brian: aren't you supposedly busy working?
Jenn: yes but I forgot to say thank you.
Brian: no need.
Jenn: yes there is. But now I really have to go. Thanks again.
She hung up and my smirk turned into a smile.
Brian: she thinks I'm sweet.
The traffic wasn't to horrible as I drove home.
Brian: I guess I'm really doing this. Yup. I could just stop now. Or go for it. Married. Alone. He's your friend. Not really. Yes. I mean yeah but not really. He's more like an acquaintance.
Matt: tell me about the chick.
Brian: what?
Matt: the lunch girl.
Brian: she's sweet.
Matt: hot?
Brian: doesn't even begin to come close.
