Carry Me

Vingt Six

Levia watched with happiness as Matt escorted her sister out onto the dance floor, his hand gently cupped in hers. It was almost like a movie, Levia thought, the way they were together.

Jacoby chuckled, his eyes not leaving Levia, who was still sitting on Zacky at her family’s table that had been pushed to the other side of the room, near the ‘stage’ to make room for the dance floor. She felt uncomfortable under his gaze, but yet she didn’t want him to look away.

Zacky’s hand on her thigh twitched, and she had a feeling he had seen Jacoby looking. Part of her felt guilty, like she had been caught in the act. In reality, she hadn’t done anything wrong. She had only looked at someone who was also looking at her.

Then why did it feel so wrong, but so right?

“Aww, how cute. Now hurry your asses up. I’m getting old here.”

Not even Zacky could hold in his laugh. Levia ignored the strange sensation of his chest vibrating against her side, despite how she kind of liked it.

Matt rested his hands on Addison’s waist while her arms wrapped tightly around his neck. Matt yelled something at Jacoby, and both of them laughed.

“Well alrighty, then. Let’s get started.”

Levia giggled a bit, hoping Zacky didn’t notice, as Jacoby cleared his throat and stretched, acting like he was getting ready for a marathon.

“Hurry up, fucker! Before I’m old!” Matt yelled, earning a laugh from Addison and the crowd that had gathered to watch the dancing newlyweds.

Jacoby feigned offence, “Hey, now. I could walk off this stage right now and not do shit for you. Asshole.”

Tobin nudged Jacoby in the back with his bass and Jacoby sighed.

“Alright, alright. We’ll start.”

Levia felt Zacky rest his cheek on her shoulder and smiled. She put her head on top of his, and the two watched the display in front of them.

I’ve been looking for something sacred
Running away from the light
Gotta burn all the bridges in my head
That lead me away from my life
I question my own existence
Question the meaning of life

Matt and Addison swayed back and forth, looking no where but each other. Levia, with the rest of the room, quietly watched on.

Why don’t you carry me
Why don’t you carry me
I can’t move on
I can’t live on
Carry me
Why don’t you carry me
I can’t save me
I am crazy
Without you

Levia felt Zacky squeeze her gently and tilted her head to see him smiling at her. She got that feeling in the pit of her gut and smiled as he kissed her cheek.

It takes horns to hold up my halo
And strength to get through the fight
Now I’m playing my cards on the table
Praying everything will be alright
I question my own existence
Question the meaning of life

Levia looked away from Zacky when she felt other eyes on her. Zacky resumed resting his head on her shoulder as she lifted her head up. She met Jacoby’s gaze.

Why don’t you carry me
Why don’t you carry me
I can’t move on
I can’t live on
Carry me
Why don’t you carry me
I can’t save me
I am crazy
Without you

Levia gulped as Jacoby never once looked away from her. Shouldn’t he be watching Matt and Addison, or looking around the room? Why was he looking at her while he sang? It was almost like he was singing to her.

Levia let the thought linger before closing her eyes, taking a deep breath, and letting it leave. Surely her imagination was getting the best of her again.

Zacky slightly pushed Levia up, startling her from her daze. He chuckled and grabbed her hand, gently leading her out onto the dance floor. Other couples migrated their way out onto the dance floor to join Matt and Addison, not that it seemed to faze the bride and groom.

Levia heard the phrase repeated as her wound her arms around Zacky’s neck. With her heels on, they were almost the same height, with Levia now only around an inch shorter. It seemed to please Zacky, as he just stared into her eyes like that night at the beach. Levia felt like he was reading her soul, and instead of turning away this time, she let him.

Their faces were close, noses touching. It was almost like an Eskimo kiss, but not quite. Levia was sure that if either her or Zacky spoke, their lips would brush together.

Normally she wasn’t a huge fan of this kind of public affection, but everyone else was probably doing it too. She almost knew for a fact that Matt and Addison would be doing it. It wasn’t like anyone would notice, anyway.

Levia, to avoid Zacky seeing her pink face, moved her head to the side of Zacky’s neck. He smelled so nice…

Her ‘creeper’ thoughts, as she called them, were interrupted when she caught Jacoby’s eye. Again. He sang while watching her. Again.

She watched him in awe, admiring the sound of his voice. The emotion he, and the other guys, for that matter, put into the song was almost too much for the sensitive Levia. She could feel her eyes become glossy, though she knew she wouldn’t cry. It wasn’t that kind of feeling.

Levia’s eyes followed Jacoby, who was also following her, as she and Zacky swayed back and forth. She couldn’t take her eyes off him. It was like he was trying to tell her something, but she just couldn’t figure it out.

Carry me
Carry me
Carry me

The song ended, the last chord ringing through the large reception hall. Clapping erupted and Zacky let go of Levia to do so. She weakly clapped along, her eyes still glued to Jacoby, who was trying to catch his breath back. He laughed and put the microphone up to his face.

“You’re welcome, my dear Matt and Addi. Now, any more requests from the lovely couple?”

All heads turned to Matt and Addison, who were discussing their options quietly, only a few feet from Levia.

“We want some Getting Away With Murder!” Matt yelled.

Jacoby scratched his head, “As the second song you hear as a couple?”

Matt and Addison both nodded, “Yeah!”

Jacoby looked and Jerry, who shrugged.

“Well alrighty, then. Hit it, boys!”

Levia latched onto Zacky as the dance floor turned into a mosh pit in a matter of seconds. She wouldn’t have normally had a problem with it, not at all, but she was sure to break her ankle if she wore these heels in here.

Zacky held onto her tightly as she bent down. He looked at her curiously.

“What are you doing?” he yelled over the music.

Levia look up at him, one hand slipping off her left heel, “Taking off my shoes!”

Zacky nodded, still not understanding why but giving her room to do so. Levia stood up a minute later and held her shoes and everyone around them jumped and shoved, unsure of where to put them.

She eyed the stage, and before Zacky could even ask what she was doing, she whipped her heels in the direction of the performing four. One nearly hit Tobin in the face, and the other nailed Jacoby right in the arm.

He stopped singing while the other three kept playing and glared out into the crowd.

“Okay, which one of you fuckers whipped a shoe at me?”

Levia and Zacky shared an amused look while Zacky lifted up his arm and pointed down to Levia. She gaped up at him and gave him a light shove, earning a laugh from him.

Jacoby grinned when his eyes met Levia’s again and he pointed a finger at her.

“Don’t think you’re getting away with that, Miss Wallace. You could be getting away with murder, but getting away with whipping shoes at people is not acceptable. And it’s a very long song title.”

She laughed as she smiled and stuck her tongue out at him, jumping up and down in time with the music and with Zacky, who was laughing along with her.

This was the most fun she’d had in a long time.

And it was only just beginning.
