We're forever; I'll remember that

Hello, New House

I sat cross legged on my couch, a gallon of ice-cream in one hand and the remote in the other. It was December 5th; Already, Nick had been gone for three days, and I missed him terribly. It wasn’t as bad as when we had no contact, when I had been stupid enough to break-up with him during the transition to college. No, it wasn’t like that at all. I just missed him. The way he laughed on the phone wasn’t enough to keep me smiling, but it was enough to keep me sane, and who knew how long that would last.

Sighing, I flipped through the channels, shoving some more cotton-candy ice-cream into my mouth. There was absolutely nothing on. Turning my head, I glanced out the window, the rain falling at a slow, even pace. It was freezing in this apartment and I could only imagine myself in that new house. Nick said they’d call when I was able to go over: everything was a waiting game.

Flicking the TV off, I stretched out my legs, shivering at the cool air lingering around me. The ice-cream didn’t help, either. I picked the carton up, setting it down on the coffee table to stand, making my way over to my bedroom. I had realized yesterday that there were a few articles of clothing that he left behind: the button up shirt I had worn the other day, which was in the hamper, a plain v-neck that was stuck in my drawer, my mistake, and his New York Yankees sweatshirt, or one of his many. The sweatshirt smelled like his laundry detergent, and his cologne, of course, making it as if he were really there. I grabbed it off the bed and slipped it over my body, pulling up the long sleeves. I felt myself smile, my eyes closing, as I pulled the hood around to my nose, burying my face in it. It was soft and intoxicating, enough to satisfy me for the moment.

Grabbing my phone off the dresser, I saw I had a new text from Abby.

Coming over. 5.

I rolled my eyes, smiling. She was taking this wedding planning seriously, and that was a major plus. Although I didn’t want to do anything without Nick, this was a good time to get things done without his good looks distracting me. All we really had left were the invitations list, the date, the cake, and the dress. It wasn’t that much at all, and I was certainly glad. I wanted this wedding to come faster, but I was nervous at the same time: overall, I was extremely happy.

A knock on the door sounded and I knew it was Abby. Shoving the phone in my pocket, I made my way over to the door, unlocking the lock and opening it, her smile the first thing I saw.

“Hey,” she smiled, her blonde hair in perfect curls down her back.

“Miss Jones, if I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were going out soon,” I laughed, hugging her to me.

“You are correct, future Mrs. Jonas,” she grinned, her eyes sparkling.

I opened the door wider, allowing her to enter before closing and locking it.

“Where would Mike be taking you?”

“I honestly don’t know. I think he’s just taking me to dinner. He’s gotta’ go back to Texas to finish up some ties before moving into the new apartment,” she grinned with delight. I couldn’t help but smile back. “But anyway-” she sighed, plopping down a large book, a tablet, and a box of cards filled with numbers on them. “I brought a basic idea book for dresses, all of which you can customize, a new tablet to start on the guest names, for your side, anyway, and then the bakery numbers.”

“Looks like we’ll be busy.”

My fingers were sore from flipping through all the pages and cards. There were so many good looking bakery’s and so many beautiful starter dresses. I couldn’t choose.

“Okay… it’s obvious you’re incapable without Nick,” she teased, shaking her head.

“So not true,” I mumbled, giving her a pout. “Do you think he’d be busy right now?”

She laughed, shrugging. “Call him. We need to pick something.”

“Fine,” is sighed, pulling out my phone. I dialed the number, holding it up to my ear. It only rang a few times before I heard my favorite, soft, calm voice.

“Hello?”

“Hi Nick,” I smiled, shifting my position on the couch as Abby silently flipped through the book.

“Hey beautiful, what’s up?” he replied, a smile in his voice.

“She’s incapable of choosing a bakery and needs your super abilities!” Abby shouted, smirking. I rolled my eyes, blushing as Nick’s sweet laughter filled my ear.

“Alright, then I definitely have time to help. The bakery’s are in New York or Jersey?” he questioned, shuffling the phone.

“Well, I narrowed it down to three. Two in New York and one in Jersey. Wouldn’t it make more sense, though, if we picked the one in New Jersey?”

“Umm… yeah, I guess so. But if your favorite is in New York than they can just deliver it,” he spoke.

“But if they delivered it, that’d be extra money and you’re already on a budget, aren’t you?” I questioned, biting my lip.

“Yeah… about that-” he started with excitement in his voice. “I’m definitely going through.”

I felt my mouth drop open, mostly in relief. I knew he’d get it… he was amazing. “Really? I’m so proud of you!” I grinned, turning to Abby. “He got it!”

“Congratulations!” she shouted, laughing.

“Thank you and thank you,” he chuckled. “So, pretty much, I have the budget figured out. We have some money to spare, counting what I had already saved.”

“That’s incredible, really. When are you coming back then?”

“I think two days, maybe tomorrow. I wired the money for the house already, so they should be calling you by the end of today or early tomorrow morning,” he sighed. I could just picture his smile. “Anyway, is the bakery in New York that really big one by your photography class?” he asked, mumbling a ‘hey’ to a man in the background. I could hear a door open, voices erupting and cars soaring by. He must be outside.

“Yeah, that one’s my favorite.”

“Then that one it is.”

“Thank you,” I laughed, hearing a car door slam.

“Did you need anything else?”

“Umm, about the invitations, the guest list? Did you want to wait until you got here, or…” I trailed, pointing to a dress in the book. Abby looked down at it, grinning madly. Was it weird that I was able to pick one in five seconds with Nick on the phone?

“I think that’d be best, right? I mean, you can put down who you want to come, but I think we should both do it,” he mumbled shyly.

“Great. That’s fine,” I laughed, switching the phone to my other ear. “What are you doing, anyway?”

Abby wrote down the number of the dress, placing the note on the table where I could see it. I gave her a smile, turning my attention back to Nick’s voice.

“I’m getting ready to drive back to the hotel. I actually just got out of another meeting a few minutes before you called. So you’re doing some wedding stuff?” he questioned, the sound of a rental car starting up echoing in the background.

“Yeah. Abby has a date though,” I laughed, her cheeks turning red, but she smiled anyway.

“Oh really?” he chuckled. “With Mike, I hope.”

“Yes!” she squeaked, his laughter sounding again.

“That reminds me. I, uh, I kind of want to take you somewhere before the wedding, you know? Joe says he planned some guys night of whatever the day before, and I’m sure you’re going to do that girl thing, but I wanted to take you somewhere before…” he trailed off nervously. It was too adorable.

“I’d love too,” is smiling, ignoring Abby’s kissey-faces. “Where?”

He let out another laugh, the excitement in my voice noticeable. “It’s a surprise.”

“Of course,” I pouted, picturing his smirk.

“Stop pouting. I think you’ll like it.”

“Okay… okay,” I smiled, running a hand through my hair, taking in the scent of his sweatshirt. “I should probably let you get driving, but call me… whenever.”

“I will. I’ll call you around 8 your time, okay? And I miss you,” he mumbled quietly, as if he were embarrassed to say it.

“You’re blushing, aren’t you?” I giggled, hearing silence.

“No,” he finally muttered, but I could hear the smile in his voice.

“Okay,” I laughed again, shaking my head. “I miss you too.”

“I love you Mitchie,” he replied softly, his voice echoing through my ears. My heat fluttered each time he said that.

“I love you too Nick.”

I pulled at my bag, shutting the door tight behind me. It was around ten in the morning and I had gotten the call from the realtor late last night. I was completely excited to see the house. It already had some furniture in it, thanks to Nick and his mysterious ways, and Mr. and Mrs. Jonas, of course. I’d get to spend the whole day in it alone, though, which wasn’t such a good thing. I knew Nick was trying to get back today so he’d spend the first day in the house with me, but I wouldn’t blame him if he couldn’t make it, of course.

Readjusting my bag on my shoulder, which held some personal items and clothes until I could move the rest, I smiled at the people passing, getting into the elevator. The thing that came to mind was Nick’s little date. I was curious as to what it was. He always had amazing surprises, this one being no different, I knew, and I wished that he was here right now.

The elevator dinged, signaling that the doors had opened. The doorman smiled as I passed, stopping me for a moment.

“Well, Miss Johnson; I see you’re moving out,” he chuckled.

I had never really spoken to Luke much, but he was a nice man, in his mid forties. He often had to sit and listen to me whimper during the days Nick and I were split, and then he got to listen to me giggle and gush about how cute he was or how amazing it felt when he kissed me. He was nice enough not to tell me to shut up.

“That I am,” I laughed, looking down at the sweatshirt I had put on this morning again. “Only bringing some stuff now though, Nick’s supposed to be back tonight or tomorrow,” I beamed at the mention of his name.

“I see. I think it’s wonderful, you too. He’s a good boy,” he smiled, giving me a wink.

“He is,” I agreed, giving him a final nod as I passed, the cold December air hitting me.

I walked down the sidewalk, turning the small corner, spotting my car in the lot close to the back exit where I left it last. Opening the trunk, I threw my bags in, shutting it tight and slipping into the drivers seat, immediately turning the heater on. The player turned on, the screen flashing ’SWITCHFOOT.’ I smiled to myself, listening to the words of one of my favorite songs, humming along as I pulled out, driving down the road to the house.

It was such a neat neighborhood compared to the apartment. The streets weren’t busy, the enclosed area neat and welcoming. I smiled, pulling up into he driveway, the sign reading SOLD in large letters, and I couldn’t help but let out a squeal. Quickly slamming the door, I walked up the driveway, opening the small gate, my eyes catching sight of a little white note hanging on the door. Pushing my hand out, I snatched it, reading the small handwriting.

‘This house is perfect for you two. Here’s the key and please enjoy! Congratulations on the engagement-Susan.’

I smiled, ripping the key off the paper and shoved the paper in my pocket before quickly opening the door. The whole area engulfed me. It was even more beautiful with furniture. Shutting the door, I peeked my head around the corner, looking at the living room and the open kitchen door. I couldn’t stop myself from running through the house like a child, taking in the sight of everything once again.

I couldn’t wait until Nick got here.

I'm so sorry that i haven't been updating much.
I'll try to change that.

This is sort of a short filler, but the wedding's coming soon.
COMMENTS, please. (:
It's fun writing this as cute. Then The Distance Between Us as a third person. Because you loved me as more of an odd one, and then Broken Danger as the fun one, for me anyway.
Yeah. ha

sorry for any mistakes.
