The Run-away Fire
Scene 2 – Outside the cabin
Setting:
Everyone is outside in front of cabin putting luggage on the steps and Penelope is wandering around.
Jason:
Dad do we have to leave today. We've only been here for a week and I don't want to go home.
Will:
So do I Jason, but we can't stay here forever and you go back to school on Monday.
Jason:
Yes, we could stay here forever.
Audrey:
[Shoving a suitcase down the stairs] You would like that wouldn't you.
Jayden enters while Penelope exits stage left.
Jason:
Yes I would actually.
Jayden:
Hi Turners, ready to go.
Will:
[Talking to himself] Oh, Jayden's here already, and we're not finished packing.
Jayden:
[Overhearing] Yes I am. I have another family coming to stay here and I just came down to see how your packing was going.
Elizabeth:
Well, you will be pleased to learn we are almost done, but I don't know where our daughter Penelope has got to.
Penelope enters stage left
Elizabeth:
[To Penelope] Now where have you been?
Penelope:
No where.
Jayden:
[Laughing] Kids are like that sometimes. I have two myself and they are always getting into trouble.
Will:
…and they are rather hard to keep track of.
Jayden:
Well I better be off, like I said that family will be here soon.
Jayden exits stage left.
Audrey:
Dad can we come back here next year?
Jason:
I'm not going to need to come back because I'm not going.
Audrey:
[Laughing] Yeah right and where are you going to sleep.
Will exits stage right.
Jason:
I'll take some pillows.
Audrey:
You'll freeze.
Jason:
No I won't.
Audrey:
Yes you will.
Jason:

Audrey:

Jason:
[Holding up a blanket] I'll take a blanket.
Audrey:

Elizabeth:
Jason put that back.
Jason:

Elizabeth:

Audrey:
As I was saying, considering your memory you'll forget it.
Jason:
What's wrong with my memory?
Audrey:
You're forgetful.
Jason:

Audrey:

Elizabeth walks over.
Elizabeth:
Yes Jason.
Jason:
Audrey said I'm forgetful.

Audrey:

Elizabeth:
That’s right, now go and help your father.

Elizabeth gives a funny look.
Audrey:

Now, Jason, what was all that about?
Jason:
I don't want to leave.
Elizabeth:
We are coming back next year.
Jason:

Elizabeth:

Will:
[Yelling off stage] Elizabeth, Jason we need your help back here.

You're fathers calling, come on.
Elizabeth and Jason exit stage right.
