The Run-away Fire
Scene 4 – The parking lot
Setting:
Will is standing in the parking lot Elizabeth comes running on stage left
Elizabeth:
Will, the kids have gone missing. [Elizabeth sobs]
Will:
What! I'll ask Jayden for help, we can start a search party. I think I see him coming.
Jayden enters stage left.
Will:
Jayden the kids have gone missing.
Jayden:
Oh no! Does Audrey have a cell phone? We could call them.
Elizabeth:
No, we said she was too young.
Jayden:
[Confusedly] Too young at 15?
Will:
[Getting mad] Never mind that now, we need to find our kids.
Jayden:
Yes of course. [Looks around] Where did you see them last?
Will:
Well they were supposed to be here waiting for us.
Elizabeth:
When we came out we assumed they were in the bathroom, but then [Elizabeth bursts out crying]
Will:
[Pats Elizabeth on the back.] It's alright. It'll all be alright.
Jayden:
[Pulls out a mobile phone from an inside pocket] Ok, who knows the emergency number?
Elizabeth:
You don't know the emergency number.
Will:
[Will sighs and hits his head.] It's triple zero.
Jayden:
Right. [Three small beeps are emitted as he pushes buttons] Zero, zero, zero. [Talking into phone] Hello? Oh! Hi Robert, oh yes. Hows Tom? [Elizabeth sobs again and covers her face in her hands] That's good. Right, now, three kids have gone missing. Yes two girls, Audrey and Penelope and a boy, Jason Turner. Ok yes, yes. In the forest. Great, thanks. [Jayden hangs up] They'll be here soon.
Police men enter stage left
Jayden:
Rob, Tom how are you?
Robert:
Good, good.
Tom:
Are these the parents?
Jayden:
Yes. Will, Elizabeth, this is Tom Prewett and Robert Lawrence. Tom, Rob, meet William and Elizabeth Turner.
Tom, Robert, Will & Elizabeth:
Nice to meet you. [The four shake each others hands and Elizabeth continues to cry]
Tom:
Okay, now we're going to need a full description of the children. [He pulls out a notebook from his front pocket]
Elizabeth:
[Ceases crying] Audrey is about this tall. [She points to her shoulder]
Will:
With brown hair and… [Tom pulls out a pen and begins scribbling notes]
Elizabeth:
Jason has dark brown hair, and he's about a head shorter than Audrey.
Will:
And Penelope has dark brown hair and is almost up to my waist.
Tom:
Thank you. We'll organize a search party and they'll look right round the bush.
