Tell Me, Will It All Be Okay?

Chapter Forty-Five: “It All Sounds Crazy.”

Chapter Forty-Five: “It All Sounds Crazy.”

“I think you’re right. She didn’t want kids.”

“Explain.”

“It sounds crazy, but, I think it’s true. She looked down on Frank’s friends, and he would make new ones every time. I remember him sneaking girls into the house. And here’s little old shy, quiet, stupid me who somehow got influenced by it, poked fun at Frank
and asked him to kiss me. I’m a fucking dumbass.”

“Lis. Child in the car.”

“Sorry. I’ll just shut up now.”

“I’m still a little confused.”

“Honestly, I am too. It sounded more clear in my head. I’m still mad though. This whole entire time, it was my fault.”

“Lisa. Don’t get yourself wound up by it. Just ignore your mother. You can have
mine.” He laughed.

“Your mom’s cool.”

When we got home, everyone else was there, all hanging out by the pool. We changed and joined them too. Although, I pulled Frank away to talk to him. I explained everything to him.

“Lisa, that’s nuts,” he said. “Do you really think she’d go through all that trouble to get rid of us?”

“I told Mikey, it sounded more clear in my head. Frank, I don’t know. After all that, I feel like it’s my fault now.”

“Lisa? It’s not. Let’s just drop it. I made a mistake for writing them back and finding them. I should’ve thrown that letter out.”

I sighed. It is my fault. My mom made that clear to me. What am I gonna do? I’m guilty. I gotta make up for it now. I gotta do my time.

“Lisa? Look at me.” Frank made me look him in the eyes. “Just pretend nothing ever happened. Let’s return to normal. They don’t know where we live. We can ignore their calls. Hell, we’ll move again if we have to. We’ll move across the country.”

“Frank, you don’t know what she said about Emily.”

“I don’t care. I love Emily, and that’s all that matters. Come on, nothing is your fault. If anything, it’s all mom’s fault. Please don’t feel guilty.”

“I’m sorry, Frank.” I hugged him. “You’re right. I’m just being paranoid.”

“Good girl. Come on, Mikey’s missing you.”

I grinned and headed back outside with Frank in tow. Mikey gave a weird look to one of us, but I ignored it as I jumped him in the pool.
