My brothers are idiots.
I’ve been living in their shadows for long enough to know for sure, what with Joey in and out of sanity and David in and out of dazed semi-conscious situations. The second half of my eighth-grade year should have been a complete breeze; I was the drummer for the best band in probably all of Florida, and we were back in action after our guitarist took a half-year vacation.
Nope! Instead, I was stuck in the middle of David and Joey, trying to figure out why things were flaring up so badly…but in the middle of all the commotion, everything took an ugly turn for the worse.
We were all left picking up the pieces in the ugly aftermath of something that shook me to the core, toying with my sense of reality and familiarity. I never thought it would happen to me, as selfish as it sounds – it was never about me. It was always about my family, especially throughout these past few months…even though technically I fell under that umbrella. Whatever.
Nothing made sense after the dust had settled.
