“Y-you you really l-love m-me Eli?” I asked him as my strength began to fail. He gently squeezed my hand.
“Yes Annalise, I love you and I’d do anything for you. Ohh that reminds me, I have a present for you” He smiled at me and I returned it, I was going to miss his sweet smiles. He placed a long, skinny, black box on my lap.
“Go ahead open it” Peeling back the lid and paper I saw a beautiful blue rose lying in the box with a dark ribbon tied neatly around it. I lifted the rose out of the box, it was perfect. Under the rose there was a card and in elegant writing it said:
“For My Annalise, whose Beauty and Love is as rare in this World as this Blue Rose. With only Love -Eli “
A tear slowly rolled down my cheek, he gently wiped it away. “Th-thank y-you” Eli always made me feel so happy, it was like he was the rain after a long drought in the dessert, I needed him and I couldn’t live without him but I sure hoped that Eli could live without me. I looked at the rose and the memory of the first time Elias had given me a gift flooded into my mind.
