Demise.

two.

Prosper has been working at the mechanics shop for almost two years now. Saving up all that he could to buy the car he wanted with everything in his body. Prosper was a hard worker, usually you probably never have guessed but he’ll do anything to make sure there’s a paycheck in his pocket every other weekend.

“I need you to do a double shift Pros, my wife’s having our third and I need to be there for her, not to mention watch my other two kids.”

Kids.

Prosper hated kids.

They were the most annoying creatures to ever walk this earth and he couldn’t bear to be in the same room as one with all the whining and complaining and screaming. Prosper had locked his younger cousin in a closet when he had a temper-tantrum when Prosper had ate his ice cream.

“Congrats John, sure I’ll close up if you want.”

John smiled and patted his shoulder and smiled at him. The creases in his forehead lined with drops of sweat and the light silver in his hair was matted to his head.

“You’re a hard worker Prosper, I’m proud of you.”

Prosper smiled faintly. “Thanks John, I try my best.”

John was the few of the people that Prosper had actually had liked. He was like the father that he had never had and he was basically a mentor when it came to fixing cars.
After Prosper had closed up shop he cleaned himself up and walked home to shower and possibly leave again to go meet some of the guys from the team. Not that he wanted to, it was more of a ‘show up to make yourself look good.’

Prospers reputation was great in his eyes and he wanted to keep it that way.

Show up, have a beer and leave. That’s all there was to it.

When he got home his mother was rummaging through the cabinets looking for something the open bottle of whiskey on the counter was almost gone which meant she was going to start yelling till she got more.

“Mom, what are you doing?” Prosper asked.

She turned around and looked at him. She looked like she hadn’t slept in a couple of days, the dark circles forming under her eyes.

“I need my glass, where’s my glass?”

Prosper walked over to his mother and closed the whiskey bottle back up placing it under the sink.

“Mom, you should go lay down.”
“No, I need my glass!” She said almost yelling.

Oh no you don’t. Prosper thought. She wasn’t going to pull this again.

“Will you be quiet before we have a cop at the door!”

He brought her over to the couch and sat her down giving her a blanket.

“Mom, just lay down alright? I’m going out.”

Prosper knew as soon as he was gone she would go right back into the kitchen on a search to find her glass.
