Tristis Nox

The Heavens Gushed

*I have maybe two minutes before guards come after me. I should probably move quickly, although in this crowd it’ll prove difficult.* I tapped the sides of the horse and slowly moved through the streets. *So much for moving ‘quickly’.*
I was close to the inn when my name was called. “Tristis!”
I looked to my left and saw my small friend. “Rob.” I greeted with a smile.
“What are you doing? And since when did you have a horse?”
“I have to leave. There’s something I must do elsewhere.” I glanced around, scanning for guards. “Sadly I have to get going… like now.”
“Is someone after you?” concern for me was evident in his words.
“You could say that. Or more specifically will be.”
“Oh Tristis, what’d you do this time!?”
“Don’t worry about me, worry more about yourself, Rob.” Shouts started erupting behind me. *Darn, my times up.* The shouts got louder with each passing second.
“Find that girl!”
“Get the horse!”
“Stop her!”
“Get out of the way!”
“MOVE!”
“The guards! Tristis, don’t tell me the horse your are riding is a Royal horse!” I shrugged, I was not going to lie to him. “Triiiiis!”
“This is my cue to say farewell. Goodbye, Rob. I’ve had fun hanging out with you, but my time here is up. May we see each other very soon. Farewell my friend.”
“Do you have to go?”
“Yes. Good-bye.” I jabbed my horse with my heels causing him to buck. Once his hooves were on the ground again he dashed forward at lightning speed. “Good-bye” faded to nothing as I weaved farther from the inn.
It was quiet for a little while before the silence was shattered and guards drew nearer. I glanced behind me and found that they were only a dozen feet away. *I can’t be caught or everything I’ve word for will be ruined. This is funny though, seven men after one girl all because she took a mere horse. Their lives must be pretty boring. Let’s shake things up.*
I looked behind me once more and saw that they were still chasing me. *Wow. ~No Lives.~* I faced forward again and raised my hand. I quietly chanted and within seconds the pale blue, cloudless sky darkened with nasty black clouds. Thunder sounded and heavy rain gushed from above. It trailed behind me and fog started to cover everything; masking my existence. Eventually the sound of pounding hooves was replaced by the heavy rain and I slowed my mount.
*How do you like them apples?* I laughed to myself and patted my horse. *Yes, you are my horse now.* I got off and walked some ways before I found a cave. “Come on, we’ll rest here for a bit.” The horse neighed and followed after me. “Stay here while I go and catch us some water.” I rummaged through my bag, got a bowl, and walked outside. *Vay would so be mad if he knew what I just did.*
