Repeating Apologies

When we got to the bar, Phil grabbed my hand and led me away from the guys and Jess. I didn’t question where he was taking me, although most girls would if you only met the guy today, but I trusted him enough to know that he wouldn’t kidnap me. Phil stopped at an empty table booth. He looked at me and smiled, letting me sit down first. I smiled back and slid into the seat. Phil did the same, but sat in the seat in front of me so we could face each other.

“So what makes you lead me to sit at a table by ourselves?” I asked, genuinely curious by his act.

“Well I’m not much of a drinker, plus I wanted to be alone so we can talk more…we can go back and chill with the guys if you want.” He said, looking a bit nervous. I smiled and shook my head, “I’m not much of a drinker either and I don’t mind talking more with you.” He smiled and held my hands in his. “You’re a cool chick,” he complimented and gave me two thumbs up. I couldn’t help but laugh. Phil was just a funny guy although most would think he’s awkward, but I was the same way in most cases…It’s probably why we get along so well. “Thanks, you’re a cool dude as well.” I said and patted his head like he was a puppy, while he ruffled my hair. We smiled then cracked up, I could definitely hang with this guy.

“You are too amazing. I mean you’re Hispanic, you love the LA Lakers, and you love fútbol and you know that I mean the original fútbol and not the ‘American Version.” You have to be taken or something to be this awesome,” He smiled and chuckled nervously. I couldn’t help but find this cute. I shook my head before smiling, “I’m actually single. I haven’t dated in about a year or two…I know it sounds lame, but I just haven’t found a guy who understands my awkwardness. A lot of people think I’m this totally badass chick, but I’m super awkward like…oh god…”I said and blushed.

Phil chuckled and held my hands in his once again. He gave me the cutest smile that I bet any girl would melt on the inside. “Well we can be awkward together…we’ll be the awkward turtles together!” I giggled and nodded in agreement. I looked towards the dance floor and a brilliant idea crossed my mind. I faced Phil again and a small smirk appeared on my lips, “Wanna be awkward turtles right now and go to the dance floor?” I suggested which Phil nodded with a smile and held out his hand for me to take so he could lead us to the dance floor.

Once we made it to the dance floor, Phil spun me around so that my back was pressed to his chest, his hands were placed on my hips and mine were placed on top of his. We moved our hips together with the beat of the music and Phil ended up lacing our fingers together. We had danced together for about an hour and we had so much fun. He would whisper little jokes in my ear and I would laugh at them. We left the dance floor, just laughing and being silly. Phil wrapped his arms around my shoulder. We pretty much decided on being best friends now. I yawned slightly and looked at him. “Do you know what time is it?” I asked since my phone was dead right now. He took out his phone from his pocket and checked the time, “It’s almost two in the morning. We can head back to my hotel room. I know that the guys are back and I’m sure that Jessi is with them.” I nodded and yawned again. He took my hand and we walked out of the bar and called over a taxi to drive us to the hotel.


I woke up the next morning to my phone going off. I sighed softly to myself and picked up my phone from the end table and touched the screen to see that I had a few missed calls and a lot of text messages. I opened my inbox to see the most of my texts were from Jessi and some were from my mother. I checked my most recent message from Jessi.

From: Jessi
The guys want to get breakfast/lunch, so get up and meet us in the lobby by 11. Better not be late hooker <3

I chuckled softly and rolled my eyes, before typing a quick witty response. I put my phone back down and I felt someone breathing in my ear. I turned around to see that Phil was lying behind me, with his arms wrapped around my waist. He opened his eyes and smiled widely. I couldn’t help but smile back and snuggled into him. “Mmm good morning, my awkward friend,” I groaned softly nuzzled my face into his chest. “Good morning to you too, my awesome awkward turtle.” I laughed softly and looked at him, “The guys wanted to go out for brunch today and told us to be at the lobby at 11.” He nodded and sat up slightly, bringing me up with him. “Let’s get ready before the guys bite my head off for being late.” I nodded and we got ready.

Two minutes ‘til 11 and Phil and I walked out the elevator and walked to the lobby, where we saw the guys and Jessi. Tino looked up and pointed at us, making everyone else look at us. Jessi folded her arms and smirked. “Where the fuck did you two go off too?” Shay asked as the guys surrounded us. “We were at the bar…but we just went to be alone and away from the alcohol to talk.” Phil said and shrugged his shoulders like it was nothing. The guys were looking at the both of us to see if we were lying, but we shown no evidence. “Mhm…well I’m starving, so let’s head out to IHop.” Austin said and wrapped his arm around Jessi as he started to head out the hotel. I gave Jessi a look but a sly smirk. She stuck out her tongue at me and returned the smirk when Phil had repeated Austin’s actions to me. I grabbed my phone and sent Jessi a text.
