The Great Escape

Change of Plans

“Izzy”

Whenever I woke up, Bailee was driving, and Cam was in the trunk with me. “Uh…” I said.

Cam was asleep, and then it got me wondering, “No offense to Jason, but why is Cam the only man in this car?”

“Does it matter?” Bailee asked.

I noticed Holly was asleep too, “Were these two love birds the only ones up last night?”

“Pretty much.” Jason said, playing with the phone.

“I wonder if that guy is doing okay…” Tina said.

“Doesn’t matter, he’s probably got bruises around his neck though.” Jenna said, “I mean, Cam held him pretty tight.”

“Oh well.” I said, and leaning on the back seat, “So, Jason, where we at?”

“Uhh… somewhere in the middle of New Mexico.” He replied.

“So how much farther do you think we have to go?”

“About five more hours and we’ll be there.” He said.

I patted Tina’s head, “You excited?”

She nodded, smiling some. I looked at Jenna, “Where do you live?”

“Arkansas.” She said, “So I suppose it will be my turn next.”

“We live in Ohio.” I said, “What about you Cam?”

I looked behind me, and then I saw the sleepy head, “Hm, fine, guess I’ll just ask when he wakes up.”

We drove on for about another hour before my good trunk buddy woke up, “Hey! Looky here, lover boy’s awake.”

“Huh?’ He asked, his black hair messy.

“Yeah, I’ve been dying to know,” I said, “Where do you live?”

“In Illinois.” He said, yawning.

“Looks like we go last.” Bailee said.

“It shouldn’t take too long, maybe a week.” Jenna said.

“Let’s see, Texas, Arkansas, Illinois, and then Ohio.” I said, naming off the states, “Okay, when that’s done, what do we do?”

“We find my brother.” Cam said, as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world.

“Wait- what?” I asked, “Your brother? What will he do for us?”

“He’ll help us hack these chips.” He said, “He can hack into them so they can’t track us.”

“Track us? They haven’t been following us since we left.” Jenna said.

“No, they did last night while you guys were asleep. I called my brother and he took care of it-”

The phone ranged.

“Speak of the devil.” Jason said, answering, “Eden residence.”

He was silent for a minute, then hung up. “Hey, Cam, it was your bruh.” he snickered some, “He said he’s got it covered for about three days, other than that, he’ll have to see us in order to actually hack into the chips.”

“Three days, huh?” Bailee said, “But it’ll take at least five if we do as we planned.”

The car went silent, as new plans seemed to fall into everyone’s head. “Tina, Jason, can you guys wait?” Jenna asked.

The twins looked at each other, and silently debated, “There’s always next time.” Bailee said.

I watched as they both sighed, “Whatever.” Jason said.

And he gave the phone to Cam, suddenly disgusted of it. I felt sorry for him, and Tina, they were both looking forward to their family.
