Hold Me Down
Can You See It.
“Surprise!”
I glanced to my right to find my brother, Ray and Bert grinning at me. It’s been three whole months since Frank left to go on tour with his band. Three whole months that I’ve only been able to hear his voice, not the touch of his hand, the kiss of his lips—he was right there and he had no clue I was right here.
I stood dumbfounded; he looked amazing. I felt like crying; yeah I’m a sap, leave me alone. I watched as he introduced his band to the crowd, as he glanced around, smiling at each of them before he started singing.
I watched as he sang, sometimes screaming into the mic, as well as still managing to play his guitar. He was definitely in his element. The way his fingers moved gracefully over the chords as he began to thrash around. This was the fourth time I’ve ever seen him at a performance.
A few songs later he got the crowd to quiet down, said he had something special to say.
“Yesterday was a very special day for my family but I had to miss it because I was in Ohio. My son had his sixteenth birthday yesterday and word has it that he’s here. Tucker James, I saw that mop of head, where the fuck are you?”
I couldn’t help but laugh, then I felt a body collide with my backside—Tucker.
“Sorry dad!”
He stumbled passed me and out onto the stage where he collided with Frank’s body. Cheers were let out as soon as he left the sidelines of the stage. I watched as Frank kissed his cheek and squeezed him really tight.
He turned his attention to the crowd.
“Do me a favor will you, sing Happy Birthday to Tucker here?”
He lifted his fingers, counting to three before the entire place it seemed erupted in a chorus of Happy Birthday. I couldn’t help but smile at the embarrassed yet excited grin that took up most of Tucker’s face. I saw Frank lean in to whisper something in Tucker’s ear before I saw his arm lift and his finger point directly at me.
