Hold Me Down

I just stared at him; he was going to break my heart or make me happy or anything in between. I hated this gray area we were currently in; this moment was causing my heart to beat rapidly as I awaited him in his search for the right words.

Glancing around, at anything but him, I noticed other couples, some teenagers, some older, some families—all smiling and enjoying each other’s company. His eyes never left my face; he knew I was worrying about what he could possibly say.

“Just say something Frankie, this silence is killing me.”

I finally brought my eyes back to his own. What I found when I did caused my heart to drop into the pit of my stomach.
