Hutch or Peck?

Chapter 8

The photo shoot began and I loved every single minute of it. I was in the first outfit; Hutch instantly began with twirling me around like girls are done in movies when they haven’t seen someone they loved in a long time. I didn’t think about that at the time, so I just laughed because it was a nice gesture to start off with.

We had different poses and this went on for what seemed like another half an hour before I changed into the second outfit, Monica styling my hair into soft ringlet curls that allowed my hair to shake every time I moved my head. There was a large, white bow put in my hair to match the outfit making me love the clothes that I wore for the photo shoot even further.

This time, Peck decided to give some more direction than he did with the previous outfits we had on. I couldn’t help but drift my eyes to Hutch’s figure as he wore a sexy white V-neck, white shorts, and sneakers with his hair combed neat and slick as though we were going to a fancy dinner.

Needless to say, he looked damn good!

My mind and eyes drifted back to Peck as his words filled my ears.

“That was great, but this time you guys have to be serious and not lovey-dovey like the last time, K?” he asked causing me to place my hands on my hips.

“Lovey-dovey?” I asked defensively.

“That wasn’t lovey-dovey,” Hutch added with a brow raised.

“Well, I mean you guys had fun. These poses have to be serious with the outfits you have on now,” Peck concluded before walking away from us as he got his camera ready.

“What’s his problem?” Hutch asked shooting Peck a look although he wasn’t looking at us and instead was talking to a member of the crew working on the shoot whom handed him his phone.

“I don’t know. He’s never acted like that before,” I answered my eyes drifting up to Hutch’s.

He looked down at me and stared as though he wanted to say something, but erased the frown on his face and instead smiled a small smile.

“Don’t worry about it for now. Let’s just focus on the shoot, OK?” he asked making me wonder what was on his mind even further.

But still, even as he smiled at me, I couldn’t help but smile back and nodded in agreement as the photo shoot went on.

-Meanwhile-

I was having a good time with the Brothers as we were currently in the studio by ourselves without any of the adults that showed up when we were in the instrument room. I learned that the red-haired guy was actually their dad. Whoops.

Anywho, we were discussing what type of duet we were going to write, but that discussion lead to general questions and it was getting a little too personal.

“So, are you guys’ favorite colors are really what it is in the magazines?” I asked raising a brow at them.

“Of course! We answer our questions honestly-most of the time,” Joe answered with a slight laugh.

We all burst out laughing.

“I’m just checking to make sure. If that’s true, you and Nick have something in common with me and my sister,” I replied with a smile.

“Really? What?” Nick asked before Joe could.

“Well, my sister and I love all shades of blue. My first acoustic guitar is blue actually,” I admitted feeling myself blush all of a sudden.

“Cool. So, green is out, then?” Kevin asked in a teasing tone.

“Green’s never been cool,” Joe teased.

“Fine! I’ll just be awesome by myself,” Kevin joked.

I walked over to him (which wasn’t very far) and hugged him.

“Aww, it’s OK. You’re already awesome,” I said pinching his cheeks.

He swatted me away as my laughter filled the air.

“Good ‘cause I know I’m awesome,” he replied causing him to get a round of looks.

Nick threw a pillow from one of the couches, hitting Kevin in the face and added a, “Conceited much?” comment.

“It was a joke,” Kevin defended with a laugh.

“We should really get back to this song,” Joe said surprising me entirely.

“Yeah, but what should we write about?” Nick asked as I sat back down.

The order was Kevin, Joe, Nick, and then me. Kevin and Joe sat in chairs while Nick and I occupied the couch. Then again, I was sitting Indian-style with a memo pad and pen in my lap while the guys held theirs.

“It has to be something emotional,” I got out instantly.

“OK, but what specifically?” Nick asked looking at me.

I felt intimidated by his staring moreso than his question.

“What about a breakup between two people?” Kevin asked causing me to drift my eyes elsewhere.

I was experienced all too much about writing break-up songs and although I hadn’t written one in quite some time, I didn’t really want to write another one.

“If it is about a break-up, then what kind is it?” Joe asked.

“A break-up that happened due to a lack of communication, but the two people loved each other very much,” Nick answered.

“So, they’d end on bad terms, but come to an agreement that they still miss each other or at least what they had?” I asked to clarify what he meant.

He nodded at me and the look in his eyes said many emotions, but I couldn’t tell what they were at this very second.

“Sounds good to me. Let’s get started!” Kevin said enthusiastically causing me to tear my eyes away from Nick’s.

“I don’t really want to write a break-up song, though,” I admitted causing a round of concerned looks to gaze at me.

“It’s just I’ve been in a really bad relationship in which a co-star I dated ended up cheating on me and I’ve written a few songs about him. I-if I do agree to write a break-up song, I don’t want it to be like anything I’ve written so far. I’ve received enough attention that my mom doesn’t consider good even though it sort of is and I don’t want to hear anything she has to say if I agree to write it,” I explained.

Kevin licked his lips nervously while Joe scratched his head, but not as though he were confused. They were all speechless I guess. Even after the few awkward moments of silence, Nick was the one who spoke again.

“I understand how you feel. I’ve never been in a bad relationship, but when it comes down to writing, never be ashamed of what you write about as long as it’s genuine despite what others may think of you. In the end, you’re venting and getting out necessary feelings that you might not want to actually talk about in detail. You’re a musician as we are and we definitely are not going to judge you based on your past. No one alive is worthy of judging you,” he said shocking me entirely.

“Besides,” Joe began as he walked over to me, placing an arm around my shoulders, “you’ll find a better guy to be with. You’re far from ugly,” he said before receiving a slap to the back of the head by Kevin as I laughed, but not from the physical abuse.

“Really, Joe? You’re gonna flirt with Sam knowing the situation doesn’t call for it?” he asked.

“What? I was just trying to cheer her up and it worked! She laughed!” Joe defended hitting Kevin back.

The two soon began a slapping match and moved towards the door while Nick led me to the opposite side of the room. He looked towards his brothers as a smirk covered his lips before changing the smirk to a concerned look to me.

“You know Joe was just messing with you, right?” he asked causing me to laugh again.

“Of course I know, Nick. I’m not stupid,” I said lightly pushing him.

A small smile covered his lips before he spoke again.

“I know you’re not stupid. That much is obvious,” he said in a teasing tone.

I laughed again, but this time it was a certain amount of humor held in it.

“Oh-Ok! So I’m so obvious?” I asked in the same tone he used.

“Aaabsolutely, Samantha even though I’ve only known you for about an hour, I know you so well,” he answered teasingly.

I scoffed pushing Nick again just as a hearty laugh escaped him for the first time since I’d been there. I couldn’t laugh as I just stared at him, a smile coming to my lips as I liked seeing him happy. For the first time in a long time, I felt at peace being around new people even though it was our first time hanging out.

“I’m starving!” Joe whined causing my attention and Nick’s to be diverted to him.

The mentioning of food made me hungry. I guess being mad at Mel and my mom earlier made me hungrier than I should have been.

“Me, too,” I agreed with a small smile.

“It is like after 12. We should get some lunch. I’ll call Dad and see if the four of us could go out and grab something to eat,” Kevin said pulling out his phone.

Joe whispered an audible “yes” before coming towards me.

“We get to have lunch with the great Samantha Parker,” he said overdramatically.

I shrugged as a smirk covered my lips.

“I’m not that great,” I said waving my right hand at him.

“Nope, you’re not great; you’re amazing,” Nick said nudging me gently before he walked towards the door.

I stared in wonder after him just as Kevin got off of the phone.

“So we got the OK. Let’s get the hell out of here,” he said with a bright smile.

I nodded as the guys let me out first immediately followed by Nick, Joe, and then Kevin.
