It's Been a While

In Which They Watched Doctor Who

“Hi, is this the NJPD?” I called up the police department a little while after Gerard had hung up with them. “Just calling about a missing person’s report that was just filed,”
“Yes miss, how can I help you?”
“Well, Rebecca’s…relative just called in, and I think he’s a little bit too worried. Not that I don’t think you should go looking for her, I think you should, but I think she just needed to get out for a bit. I recommend checking theaters in the area. If you find her, just have her call us to make sure she’s okay, and she’s perfectly welcome to come back whenever she’s ready. Oh, but tell her as long as it’s before her sister’s wedding. We need her for that. Badly. Thanks sir, I hope I didn’t bother you too much. Here’s my cell, let me know what happens.”
“No problem, miss. Thanks for your concern. Have a good evening.”

There. That was done. I missed Becca. I was super in the mood for grilled cheese, but didn’t make it for fear of everyone eating it too solemnly. Order-in pizza it is.
I hope she found a nice theater. I knew she’d probably never find anyone to match up with her old troupe, but New Jersey has talent. I was sure she’d find something.

Later that night, Jill turned on the TV to find BBC showing Doctor Who reruns. Out came Jill’s sonic screwdriver. Of course, it had to be a finale episode. Those are always the ones with the most feels.
“NOOOOO DONNA. DONNA WHAT ARE YOU DOING. DONNA RUNNNNNNNN”
“Exterminate!” The TV groaned.
“NOOO DOCTOR. GET UP, DOCTOR. WE’VE GOT A PLANET TO SAVE. GET YOUR PERKY LITTLE ASS OFF THE CONCRETE.”
“You know,” Gerard interjected. “This Doctor ain’t bad looking at all…”
“Yeah, I’d tap that.” Frank said. We all glared.
“What do you MEAN Rose came back?? Parallel worlds are sealed!!” I was curled up in a ball at the foot of the couch, tears sprouting up, despite my having seen the episode already. Jill frantically pointed her screwdriver at the TV, trying to save everyone and everything. It was a great effort, really.
Just before midnight, my cellphone rang. It was Becca.
“Natalie?”
“Yeah? You alright, kid?”
“Yeah, I’m alright. Just felt like I should give you a call. I’m staying with an old friend that used to be a part of my troupe back home for the next couple nights. I’ll be back soon. Please just tell everyone not to worry. I just gotta figure some things out. You understand, right?”
“Yeah, definitely. Call anytime, alright? We miss you. I’m just glad you’re safe. Oh, one other thing.”
“Yeah?”
“We watched Doctor Who without you.”
“You did not! I- you know what, I’m about to get sassy. Though I guess that shows I still have my actress defaults. It’s late, I’ll let you go. Goodnight, Natalie. And thanks.”
“Night Becca. Glad you called. Come home soon.”
