Blue Eyes

Have you ever watched a person die? Ever watched the life drain from their eyes, the crimson spill from their still warm body? I watched as my only friend lay in her own blood, gasping for air.

I rushed to her side, tossing my keys from my hand. I knelt, skidding on my knees to be face to face with her on the floor. Her hand clutched her stomach where a kitchen knife was pierced into her belly. Her breaths came quick and shallow and with her last she muttered her last few words. Her eyes dulled and her hands fell from her tight grip on her wound.

I pulled myself back. Covered my face with my hands and wept.
