Cuthbert and Alannis.

Cuthbert and Alannis are two orphans who live together, with a few of Alannis's friends. The two share a love/hate relationship but upon Alannis leaving, Cuthbert misses her and wonders more about his friend. But Alannis is taken on a journey that changes her and her perspective of life, and how she works for Cuthbert.
Set in a bleak world, Alannis takes a journey into a distant future, but encounters more than one problem with a new friend and another self.
