Cause No One Is Perfect

How to Be a Man in the Stickiest Situations

I immediately decided to call Kevin. You should be able to talk to your older brother about these things. I made arrangements for a trip to New Jersey with Eva as a companion. She was surprised when I told her to pack her bags that we were going to New Jersey that night. A little confused even. I didn't tell her what was wrong. I I immediately decided to call Kevin. She was surprised when I told her to pack her bags that we were going to New Jersey that night. A little confused even. I didn't tell her what was wrong. I wasn't ready to admit these things out loud yet. Especially to Evangeline. I didn't even know where to start telling her. At this point I was hoping that it wasn't mine. I prayed, even though it was a slim chance statistically that it was mine, slim still leaves room. The plane ride was silent. Eva had stopped asking questions about what was wrong. I sped from the airport to Kevin and Danielle’s house and furiously rang the bell for entry. Dani opened with a huge smile on her face.
“Joe! I’m so happy to see you!” She hugged me around the two suitcases I held. She looked around me. “Who is this?” I sneaked around her and got inside. “Oh sorry come in. Kev! Your brother is here.” Kevin ran down the stairs as she yelled for him. He stood next to her as they waited for me to introduce Eva.
“Sorry for the quick trip, but I needed some brother time and I wanted you guys to meet my special lady.” Angel, held her hand out.
“I am Evangeline Matterson. It’s nice to meet you two. Joe has sort of kept me under wraps from you all for a while.” I saw as they both noticed the ring on her left ring finger and their eyes got big. I observed as question marks crossed their thoughts.
“Eva, are you okay with hanging out with Dani and getting to know each other when Kevin and I talk about something important?” She nodded and followed Dani to the kitchen.

Joe left me with his sister-in-law. I was confused and didn't have a clue what was wrong. Danielle sat down at a table so I did too. I didn't really know what to do. She smiled at me and clasped her hands on the table.
“So, how long have you and Joe been together?” I thought about it for a second and decided to go with our date of meeting.
“Almost three years.” Her eyes got wide. “Yeah, even I am confused about why he has never let me meet his family. Joe does some strange things sometimes.”
“I think he was just scared to admit that he had a weakness. You know how men are. I’m glad he has finally decided that you can meet us. It was only a matter of time before he was caught.” She laughed. “I see that you've got him for sure.” She nodded to my ring. I smiled a large smile.
“Yeah, isn't it beautiful?”

Kevin closed the door to his man cave as I sat down on a couch tapping my foot nervously. He followed suit and sat in his chair across from me waiting patiently for something.
“Why did you need to talk to me?” He began; sipping from the drink in his hand. A minute went on in silence before I could speak.
“Mikhail’s sister Ekaterina is pregnant.” He shrugged his shoulders like he was saying so people have babies sometimes. I drug my hand through my hair. “Hypothetically let’s say she had an in-law that she may have slept with after the wedding.” He gave me this look of disbelief.
“And let me take a wild guess. Hypothetically this in-law should probably go take care of it if he thinks that there is a chance that it is his. Because that girl is over there suffering. And, this said person better tell his fiancee because giving married means trusting they won’t leave when times get tough. Looks like you have a lot of growing up do, little brother. Grow some balls and be a man. When you make something you've got to deal with the consequences.”
