Trouble

Old and Married

“Ashley just messaged me, she said she’s having an amazing time in Hawaii, that we should go meet them there” I announced, rolling my eyes, my feet were currently up on the couch as I flicked through my phone, Nathan was in the kitchen making some breakfast.
“Maybe we should” Nathan sounded.
“Mmm, because invading their honeymoon is appropriate, even though she did say we should, I think we should leave that one alone” I said.
“Mmm” Nathan breathed.
“We won’t get that, you know” I announced.
“What?” Nathan asked.
“A honeymoon” I sighed.
“Why?” Nathan questioned.
“Because depending on when we get married, we’ll either have the baby, or I’ll be too pregnant to go anywhere” I breathed.
“Once the baby is born, then we can go somewhere” Nathan shrugged.
“We can’t take an infant on a holiday” I sighed.
“Babe” Nathan sighed “We’ll figure it out” he breathed.
“Ok” I mumbled, focusing back on my phone.
Nathan came over to the couch now and handed me a plate of eggs and toast.
“Thanks” I breathed, looking down at the plate.
“What?” Nathan asked.
“Nothing” I mumbled.
“No” Nathan frowned “What is it?” he asked.
“The eggs, they smell off” I sighed.
Nathan looked at the plate and then at me “They’re fresh” he said.
“I know, the baby messes with my sense of smell Nate” I sighed.
Nathan took the plate “I’ll make something else” he offered.
“I’ll just eat the toast” I said, reaching up and grabbing one piece.
“Did you take your iron yet?” Nathan asked.
“I have to take it after I eat” I sighed.
Nathan came back over with the tablets and some water before sitting beside me.
“Since when have we been old and married?” I demanded.
“Huh?” Nathan asked.
“This feels so, I don’t know, I can’t explain it” I sighed.
“Well we can’t really be going out clubbing now can we?” Nathan reminded me.
“I know, but we just, we’re falling into this pattern already and the baby’s not even born yet” I breathed.
“Ok, let’s go somewhere then” Nathan shrugged “A Pre-honeymoon, before we get married, before we have the baby” he added.
“Where?” I asked.
“Where ever you want” Nathan shrugged.
“Italy” I breathed.
“Out of budget babe” Nathan sighed.
“Right, So not anywhere then” I commented.
“I wish I could take you all around the world, but we don’t have the money” Nathan reminded me.
“Where can we go in budget then?” I asked.
“Fiji? An island somewhere?” Nathan suggested.
“That sounds good actually” I smiled.
“I’ll organise it then” Nathan said, kissing me on the cheek lightly.
“Nate” I breathed.
“Mmm” Nathan sighed.
“I don’t want to be a boring married couple” I announced.
“Hey, no way in the world would we ever be boring” Nathan grinned.
“Nate, I’m serious, I don’t want us to lose any of our spontaneity, I don’t want us to ever be stuck in a rut” I breathed.
“Baby, I promise you that we will never ever be boring, or un-spontaneous” Nathan announced.
“I don’t think that’s a word” I said, shaking my head at him.
“Ok, so maybe it’s not, but you know what I mean” Nathan said, rolling his eyes.
“I never know what you mean” I said, giggling and sliding from the couch.
“Where are you going?” Nathan asked.
“Might go for a walk” I shrugged.
“I’ll come” Nathan said.
I shrugged and he followed me, so we walked slowly out of the apartment to the park, silence in the air.

We made our way to dinner late as we had spent the day just chilling out and doing nothing, eating snacks and enjoying ourselves.
“Babe, I was thinking that we could talk about the wedding’ Nathan suggested.
I smiled and nodded “Ok” I said.
“So what are you thinking, should we wait till after we have the baby?” Nathan questioned.
“I think we should, I mean I’d love to do it now, but I don’t think I’d enjoy any bit of it” I sighed.
“Oh” Nathan said.
“Why?” I asked.
“I just, I wanted the baby to have the same surname as both of us, I know how old fashioned that is…” Nathan began.
“Nate” I said slowly “That’s sweet, it’s not old fashioned at all” I smiled “Maybe we should just go to the registry office then, I mean Ashley would kill me, but I think your point is a good one, we should both have the same last name as our baby” I breathed.
“We could wait until Ashley is back, the baby’s not going anywhere” Nathan sounded.
“Mmm, Ash would like to be involved, so I guess it’s better than doing it before she came back, she’d probably never speak to me again” I said, rolling my eyes, we reached the restaurant now and made our way in to our table.
“We do have just under six months before the baby is born, so we’ve got time to plan a little bit of a party if we wanted” I said.
“No” Nathan said, shaking his head, causing me to raise an eyebrow “I want to give you a perfect wedding, and that can happen once the baby is born, for now, getting all the legal stuff out of the way is as best as we can do” Nathan said.
“I don’t need a perfect wedding Nate” I sighed.
“It’s part of project spontaneity, and keeping things interesting babe” Nathan grinned, causing me to roll my eyes at him.
I loved that he made me smile the way he did.
